Clean and stylish light-filled 1BR loft apartment (900 sf) in a small historic building, complete with a sweet resident cat. High ceilings, mellow vibe, best for a couple or solo adult. Prime location near Madison Park. Featured in The Guardian October 2011!
*** no film shoots***
Beautiful light-filled space, perfect for one or two adults. One block from Madison Park. The kind of place that makes you want to stay home at least one night :-) Brand new mattress and soundproof windows in the bedroom.
***There is a sweet little cat in the apartment. Read her reviews! She makes it feel like home. You will have no litter duties, just need to feed her 2x day. But guests MUST be cat friendly.***
GENERAL FEATURES: The vibe is warm but modern, and the ten foot ceilings make it feel even more expansive. Intercom and buzzer, keyed elevator, accessible stairs (apt is on 4th fl). All windows are double-hung with privacy shades that allow you to enjoy the abundant sunshine. All lights are on dimmers - nothing harsh or industrial.
There are original art prints throughout the apartment and a 1936 Sohmer "Cupid" grand piano that you can play at any hour thanks to the thick walls. Air conditioning is adjustable and silent, with separately controlled units in living room and bedroom; heat can be augmented too but that's rarely necessary. It's a split-level system which means no big ugly units in the windows.
There is no TV in the apartment! But there is a fantastic stereo, a 27" retina iMac, high-speed wireless internet, and a very entertaining cat (laser toy included). A big stack of take-out menus sits next to the apartment guide... no one has to know if you order in every night.
As of October 2016 this is one of the last legal listings in NYC. Ask me why and I'll explain.
BEDROOM: Size is 14 x 15 ft with a king-size bed (new five-star Tuft & Needle mattress!), luxury linens (actual linen!), wall-mounted bedside lamps and tables. Large full-length floor mirror (see pix) and one empty closet is provided for guest use, equipped with three deep shelves and 8 sturdy wooden hangers. Extra soundproofed windows and optional blackout shades in addition to the regular ones.
BATHROOM: 5 x 11 ft "zen" style bathroom with long Corian countertop, granite flooring, bamboo tiles. Luxe rainfall shower plus a handheld unit, both with excellent water pressure, river-rock flooring and an artisan glass shower wall. Spa towels and spa-sized soaps, shampoos, conditioners and lotions are provided, also a hair dryer. Please note there is no bathtub.
LIVING ROOM: 16 x 36 ft, open plan. Large desk with 27" iMac for your use, wireless keyboard and trackpad, printer available upon request. Bang & Olufson stereo with radio, CD, cassette (!) and either wireless or wired hookup to your own ipod. Small CD collection of jazz, world music, and soundtracks. Large leather sectional sofa, longer and wider than a twin or day bed (but not a formal sofa bed). Lots of unique books on NYC history, including the building itself, which used to be the Tiffany stained glass factory. Again please note: no television. So if you hate cats and love TV, this listing is not a good match for you ;-)
KITCHEN: fully equipped gourmet working kitchen with All-Clad cookware, granite countertop, and Miele appliances (gas hob, electric oven, washer & dryer). Also toaster, kettle, hand blender, microwave and a Keurig coffee-maker with coffee pods (a Chemex with filters can also be provided on request). Ergonomic gel mats on the kitchen floor and a variety of cutting boards and properly sharpened knives. Stocked pantry items include cooking oils and vinegars, salt/pepper, sugar and spices, flour, pasta, rice and some grains. Let me know if there's something special you'd like to have on hand.
Cat Care (minimal): Edith is a sweet little rescue kitty who will play with you as much or as little as you want. She gets one can of food (or one scoop of kibble), half in the morning and half at night, plus topping off of her water. No litter duties are required because the special no-dust litter lasts a week and then the whole box gets replaced. Happy to answer Qs about cat stuff - and 100% guaranteed there is no cat smell.
***Arrivals between 9 pm and 11 am may incur an additional $50 fee, depending on my schedule. This will have to be paid in cash.***
Accès des voyageurs
Guests have full and exclusive access to the apartment, which comes stocked with pantry basics, coffee and tea, paper products, a hair dryer, designated closet space, umbrellas.
The main rule is the Golden Rule - please treat the apartment and building with respect. In addition, no parties and no overnight guests that haven't been previously approved by me. A book in the apartment provides check-out procedures, wireless access codes, appliance instructions, arrival/departure instructions etc. Also there are takeout menus, my own neighborhood guide and several other city/neighborhood guides.
Guests enjoy total privacy - it's their apartment - although I am just a text or email away should they need anything. Note that I do live in this apartment - it's not a "vacation property."
