À propos de ce logement

As many guests have said, the photos do not do justice to this magnificent room, which was once the main room of the house, with original chestnut paneling, massive carved fireplace, oak floors and many family heirlooms (see full description below.) The room's large Tuscan style loggia, private to the room, is ideal for outdoor dining and lounging with breathtaking views of the mountains.

Le logement

Enjoy the ambiance of an English castle but the modern amenities of a mini-fridge and WiFi. (A small TV also, with DVD capability -- but if your ideal vacation is watching TV, you should try another accommodation!)

This generously-sized 600 square-foot-room (the size of a two-bedroom apartment!), features a massive sandstone wood-burning fireplace with hand-hewn chestnut lintel and the ceiling is spanned by enormous chestnut beams, special to Hudson Valley vernacular. Nearly all the furnishings are beloved family heirlooms, including the red velvet Persian twin chairs from a globe-trotting great-aunt, stencilled leather coffee table from Peru, and free-standing, custom-made iron candelabra from England. The Biedermeier cabinet houses books and games, because everything in the Tudor Room is designed to be sturdy enough to host families with children as well as couples. It is on the north wing of the mansion, on the ground floor with a private entrance, which allows lots of flexibility for guests. Step outside to the room's private loggia, reminiscent of Tuscany, and you find the perfect lounging/dining space with spectacular views of the Catskills and riverscape.
(Note; the 50' pool is used by the hosts and also guests from the other room on the north side of the house. Those guests, however, will not use the loggia. They have their own private garden.)

A large, hearty breakfast is only occasionally available at $15 a person. Payable upon service. In warm weather, the gourmet breakfast is served out of doors in the Italianate loggia that is exclusively for the Tudor Room. Its brick arches give it a touch of Tuscany and beautifully frame the spectacular views of the towering Catskill mountains and gently winding Esopus river and you are only a few steps to the pool. And in addition you see the lovely vintage gardens, and acres and acres of forest with not a single building in sight. In the cooler months, the manor’s elegant Early American dining room is sometimes open for hearty breakfasts — with a roaring wood fire in the fireplace — and as always there are those awesome views of the Catskill Mountains!

Air-Conditioned, WiFi in room, mini fridge, complimentary robes, plenty of towels, snacks and coffee/tea provided in the room. There are special rates for extended stays. Small, quiet, well-behaved dogs are welcome to stay with you in this room at a cost of $25 per night per dog.
Bordering on the Esopus Creek with the majestic Catskill Mountains as the backdrop you will find a natural retreat on this secluded waterfront estate in New York's Hudson Valley. Eight private acres of manicured gardens sculpture park rolling lawns wild fields forests and a Zen inspired pond with an outstanding sculpture by one of the owners. All lead the poetic wanderer to the artist designed gazebo on the shore of the peaceful Esopus where swans and blue herons and the bald eagle glide by. Woods and water are all to be seen for miles because this stunning property is bordered by Saugerties nature conservancy, The Esopus Bend Nature Preserve. A watchful eye will be rewarded with sightings of beavers minks the fox coyote white tailed deer wild turkeys rabbits and many many more of natures delights.

Hidden back behind tall pines lies a quiet respite far from the busy noise of life’s bustle, yet within walking distance of Saugerties Historic District. This lovely Tudor estate, built in the Roaring Twenties by prominent Manhattan architect Henry Corse, boasts a pond and over five hundred feet of private riverfront and two very different rooms for guests, all ideally suited to please the discriminating traveler… For those of you who yearn to visit Europe, The Chateau Room is your trip to Paris, The Tudor Room is an English castle retreat… (Remember to click on the individual listings for more details about the Chateau Room!)

You’ve heard from us. Let’s here from our guests:
Marilyn from New Jersey said, “I am well-travelled and believe this is just about as close to paradise as one can experience.”

Diana from New York said, “My husband and I were in search of a peaceful getaway, and we found it at the Saugerties Bed & Breakfast. The grounds and view are breathtaking; we felt as though we were a million miles away (even though the center of town is about 1 mile away).”

A Tudor room guest from New Jersey raved about her experience, “We stayed in the Tudor Room which is good for up to 4 or 5 people (the couch inside is also a futon). There's a fireplace in the room which we used both nights (beautiful...and Benno was kind to help us one night to make it work!), a very very large bathroom with lots of mirrors, and a back door entrance which leads out to a balcony with a gorgeous view of the mountains, and lake. You can also access the stairs to go down for a walk. The entire backyard (which is more like a mini forest) is good for a walk, and many of Benno and Josepha's sculptures dot the trail.”

Johanna from Brooklyn loved the breakfast, and enjoyed her winter experience in the dining room, “The breakfast room is tasteful, with fine china and a crackling fire place. Everything on the breakfast table is arranged with the utmost care and beauty.”

This is the second time that my wife and I have stayed with Josepha and Beno. Last year we were there for Independence Day and I asked my wife to marry me. (She said yes.) This time we came up to celebrate Memorial Day. Both times our experience was extraordinary. Our room was magnificent. The grounds a stunning, and must be scene to believed. The room is not inexpensive but it is worth every penny and then some.

This is an unbelievable listing. This was a girl's weekend away from the city. we drove into the chateau and was warmly greeted by Josepha. Our rooms had cookies and chocolates, and Josepha husband brought us each a glass of wine which we enjoyed by the pool. The views, the room and the chateau itself felt surreal, like something out of a painting. So peaceful and calm. Wonderful energy all around. We ordered breakfast on our last morning here and it was amazing ! esp. that home made yogurt parfait. We didnt see much of Josepha and her husband but when we did they were very lovely interesting host. We definitely plan on returning. I have (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) friends asking me how to book here also :) ...

Josepha and her husband were wonderful hosts from start to finish. The room is spacious and the view is remarkable. We have a young son and can't overstate the convenience of having the room lead out to a private terrace adjacent to the pool, which allowed us to keep an eye on him and not need to stray far to enjoy ourselves. The location is great, less than a five-minute drive to the center of town and overlooking both the water and the mountains, as well as the lovely house grounds, which are well worth walking around. We highly recommend the breakfast, which was ample and delicious. Really a relaxing weekend getaway with incredibly nice hosts.

We had a wonderful time with Josepha and her husband at their beautiful home. It is hard to describe what a gorgeous view and location the home sits on -- the garden and pool and terrace look out on the Esopus Creek with the mountains sitting in the background and statues and sculptures. Josepha herself was very warm and accommodating and made us feel welcome. She was hospitable and reasonable about our dogs (two small pugs) and we always appreciate that. And the room itself was lovely with a ton of charm. We would readily return (if invited of course) and really enjoyed our time in Saugerties.

I am a playwright and a visual artist and my husband is a sculptor, born and raised in Augsburg, Germany; some of his work can be seen in our Sculpture Garden on our waterfront. (My paintings are piled in the library and can be seen at your request!) We were "introduced" by Salvador Dali in Cadiques, Spain, over 40 years ago (obviously a long story). We have a wonderful daughter, who is a licensed social worker, and we recently rescued two adorable little dogs. My family has traveled extensively. We have been to at least 12 different countries, so I know what makes a Bed and Breakfast experience feel special. We love the opportunity to meet people from all around the world, and look forward to meeting you!
