Description
Description

Our home is perched on a ridge with breathtaking views overlooking the Manukau harbour, Waitakere ranges and the Pacific ocean. A large room in a character three bedroom house in a beautiful natural setting yet only 30 mins from central Auckland.

This house has real character. The house was build in the 1950s as a holiday home. It has large picture windows overlooking the bush and harbour, and original features such as its retro 1960s kitchen. The guest room has been newly decorated as have the other common areas.

I have a passion for mid-century furniture and have enjoyed decorating my home in keeping with its era where I can.

The room itself is the largest in the house with a wardrobe, double bed, dressing table and desk. There is free use of Wi-fi.

The home is shared with myself and my two year old daughter. I work part-time, so we are home for some of the time during the week.

Ours is a family friendly home and although the room is listed as suitable for two it is a large space and we welcome guests traveling with a child. In this case I can provide a cot/mattress.

Guests have access to all common areas of my home - the kitchen and dining room, living room and garden. I have chickens and a vegetable garden, and you are welcome to help yourself to eggs and whatever I have growing at the time.

We have a deck from which to enjoy your meal or the beautiful views and an outdoor dining area to the front of the house as well.

Interaction can depend on my work schedule and how much you want to chat, get recommendations or be shown around or whether you prefer to be independent and keep to yourselves and just enjoy the retreat vibe. I love west Auckland and have lived here for a number of years, so I enjoy sharing info on the local area.

This is a very special neighborhood. In terms of living in a big city, this is as much of an antidote to city life as you can get. I still find it amazing that I can wake up here and be in the city in less than 30 minutes. There are bush walks just five minutes from our front door.

Laingholm has a its own beach (25 mins walk from myhome) and many bush walks. 8 mins away is a lovely arty, creative community with several cafes, a new art gallery, markets on the first Sunday of each month, local beaches and bush walks.

There is a bus stop one minutes walk away from our home, or if I have time I can drop you at the train station 10 minutes drive away or into the city if it combines with my work schedule. The bus is not that frequent and you have to change buses to get to the city from here. Some of the west coast beaches are not served by public transport. If it's more than a few days you'll really benefit from a car. If you have a car you can park it for free in the street.

Other Things to Note

* I can provide breakfast or dinners for a fee if requested or you can simply have full use of the kitchen. Basics such as milk and fruit, a selection of teas, plunger coffee and cooking oil are provided.
* Laundry facilities are available.
* It's possibly best for those who have a car although we do have a bus at the end of the road and I can drop you at the train station.
* Unless we are away which I will advise in initial communication, you will be sharing the house with me and my daughter. If we are away during your stay I will ask you to feed the chickens and in return you can enjoy their lovely fresh eggs.

Règlement intérieur

I am a relaxed host, but do expect guests to respect the fact this is a home with a young child.

Smoking is ok outside the house.

The space is well designed for guests in that there are two living areas. The guest room in a slightly separate part of the house where the kitchen and dining room are located, so staying up late in this space offers privacy and is separate from the other bedrooms.

I have been living in Auckland for many years now. I've lived in my Laingholm home for almost three years.

I'm the mother of a two year old girl, and work part-time as a social researcher. I'm also a graphic designer and keen gardener.
