A wonderful new-old farmhouse in a restful pastoral setting "far from the madding crowd" but close to family dining as well as elegant restaurants, Chanticleer Farmhouse is perfect for family gatherings such as weddings, graduations, reunions, or extended wine tours. Massive decks and porches overlook the Southwest Mountains and hundreds of acres of farmland. Close to Gordonsville, Barboursville, Charlottesville, Orange, Woodberry, Monticello, Montpelier, Univ of Virginia, and great wineries.
With more than 5,000 square feet including three+ bedrooms, three full baths, two half-baths, and huge decks and porches, this spacious, light-filled new-old farmhouse and cottage will easily accommodate 6 people. The views are remarkably pastoral, like an English countryside. The farmhouse has three bedrooms upstairs - MBR with queen, another room with twin beds, and one with full-size bed. (For special occasions we will consider renting the entire farmhouse and cottage. The cottage has a MBR with king and another bedroom with full-size bed. Both the farmhouse and cottage have sofa beds for "overflow.")

Walk the land at your leisure in surroundings reminiscent of the English countryside. At night the stars hang low and the sounds of cattle, peeper frogs, horses, doves, and owls complement the country quiet.
Chanticleer Farmhouse now offers a substantial discount for stays of one week or more, and a very attractive discount for visits of one month or more.
Farm owners Charles and Janet are glad to provide suggestions for dining and itineraries for excursions. Charles is a consultant in the energy industry. Janet is a nationally published writer.
The first rule at Chanticleer is to relax, have fun and enjoy the spectacular setting and nearby attractions.
We expect guests to behave respectfully toward our home and neighbors, enjoying themselves in a responsible manner. No smoking at all inside. No pets. No big parties, please! But large family dinners are certainly fine. Just ask if you're not sure what's appropriate for the house and neighborhood and we'll be glad to let you know.
We get our water from a well that has low flow but adequate storage, so we ask guests to limit showers to two or three minutes and to stagger them if at all possible.
