New York MANHATTAN Room Occupancy Taxes

The tax is on the rental of room (of course), and not on the occupants BUT OBVIOUSLY PAYED BY THE OCCUPANTS AND TURNED OVER TO THE CITY, but it is not $3.50 per room per day. Instead, for rooms that rent for more than $40 per night, the following taxes apply:

New York State Sales Tax of 4%

PLUS

New York City Sales Tax of 4.5%

PLUS

Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District surcharge of 0.375%

PLUS

A fee of $1.50 per day

PLUS

A room occupancy tax of $2.00 per day + 5.875% of the rent

Thus, your total is a fee of $3.50 per day PLUS a further 14.75% of the rent for the room.

THIS TAX IS TURNED TO THE CITY AFTER SEEN ON THE RESOLUTION REQUEST FOLLOWING YOUR RESERVATION.. Première expérience AirBnb: PARFAITE! Un très grand merci à Thatyanni et sa maman pour l'accueil, les conseils, le petit déjeuner, leur gentillesse et tous les bons conseils qu'il nous fallait pour ce week-end à NYC. L'appartement est très bien situé avec une magnifique vue sur Manhattan Bridge!!!! Nous nous sommes sentis comme à la maison! Nous reviendrons c'est sûr et certain alors n'hésitez pas à réserver votre chambre dans l'appartement de Thatyanni, vous ne serez vraiment pas déçus!!! -Julie et Yoann

We didn't meet Tanya, but her mom (Betty) was amazing. She gave us several tips to get around the city, and also had time to picked us up from the subway station. Betty is a friendly and lovely host, and we are very grateful.

Tanya's apartment is several minutes away from subway in Manhattan. This makes my touring much easier. I met both Tanya and her lovely Mom Betty. They were both very helpful and provided lots of information, including taking free ferry from South Ferry to Staten island to see statue of liberty and Manhattan. I read a previous review questioning Tanya didn't exist. This is not true. I had several chats with her and she's so nice. I guess because she's very busy so couldn't meet every guest. I stayed total 4 nights and had a chance to try two of bedrooms. Both of them have big space (when compare to others in Manhattan. My wife told me her hotel bedroom was only 4 square meters but the cost is USD 200 with shared bathroom. She came in New York one week before me and booked her own hotel in Manhattan on (URL HIDDEN) I wouldn't have expected such a big room with such budged cost. This is totally exceeds my expectation. Before the booking, I read through most of reviews to make sure I make right booking. To be honest, if following the hosts' instructions, everything would be smooth. I totally understand that staying together with other guests and hosts needs to respect to their privacy and their rights. In the end, if you on a budget, this is highly recommended.
