Gambetta is a very lively, sympathique and still authentically Parisian neighborhood. Home to two stage theaters: Théâtre de la colline and Théâtre de l'est parisien. Lots of cafés, restaurants. cinema. Full of family-style stores (fish, charcuterie, cheese, antiques, vintage clothing, photocopies...). Three post offices at 5 minutes on foot. Fresh market with exquisite produce: anything you want twice weekly along the park. Wonderful traditional bistro just downstairs. Park: full of flowers and tall trees, small funky children's playgrounds and lots of little signs explaining what the plants are and how to make them grow. 5-minute walk from Père Lachaise cemetery, another 15 minutes to the Bastille. Buttes Chaumont and Bois de Vincennes both 15 minutes by bike.
Quick access all over the city by Métro and several bus lines with stops at the park and/or at Gambetta. Easy access to the périphérique or A3 to Roissy (airport). City of Paris bikes available for rental just down the street.
We love the neighborhood and the city and are happy to share our ideas about making the most of your stay!
No smoking. No pets. Cordiality to neighbours is important, especially at night. Please do not put heavy objects on outer edges of marble dining table... marble can crack with too much pressure!

I used to live full-time in Paris, but now am more in the UK than anywhere else. I also travel a lot in Asia for my work - I am a university professor in Southeast Asian Art History. So I spend a lot of time reading, looking and thinking about art and culture, and of course eating well wherever I find myself!
