Le quartier

Arriving on Tunø you feel how the stress of every day life just melts away.
Enjoy the wonderful view to the sea almost from every where in this paradise.
Take a swim from the bathing jetty which is almost in front of our garden, or go to the other side of the island where you find a long sandy beach - "Nordstranden".
We love the tasty fish that you can buy on the harbour - enjoy the fish at one of the tables with a view to the marina or bring it back home with you to eat on the terrace.
During high season try the Kro beside the church - wonderful food, but remember to make a reservation!
There is a small super market where you can buy fresh bread along with every thing else you will need during your stay - open every day and 2 minutes walk from the house.
Try the fresh vegetables grown on the island which can be purchased at stalls along the road.
In high season take the boat from Tunø to the much bigger neighbour island Samsø - where you can rent bikes.
Once a year there is a music festival on the island - jazz/folk music.
During high season two of the restaurants have almost every week-end bands playing - you can dance or just listen to the music - entrance free.

If you come by car you can park for free at the harbor in Hov - from where you take the Tunøfærge - (a ferry) to get to the island - 1 hour transport.
Hov in Jutland (close to Odder) is 20 km from Aarhus (2nd 'biggest town in DK).
If you come by airplane its a bit more complicated to get to our island - we will give you the further details if needed.
Go to the web site:
Click booking and fartplan to find the hours of departure.
To get around on Tunø you can rent bikes.
We can help you to get a Traxa (tractor that works as a taxi) if you need help to get to the house with your luggage - included in the price.
From the harbor to the house there is around 10-15 minutes walk.

Short review: Fantastic. Birgit did answer all our questions very fast. She helped us for the ferry reservation. The house has a tremendous seaview, is warm (even if not very warm outside, the house keep the warmth), directed to the south so plenty of sunshine (when he shines) coming through the large windows. We are a couple with 2 young kids and they were delighted, so did we. The garden is huge and gives a direct access to the sea. Very relaxing place. The only 2 minus points were: 1) the cleaning was 90% ok but we had expected 100%, but a solution was found; 2) if you expect taking long showers with warm water after your day at the beach, you may want to reconsider your expectations. The amount of warm water produced by the electrical boiler is not huge. The 4 of us could wash in 1 run, but the one getting the last under the shower has often to rinse under low/cold water. Think green, it’s not a huge issue, you save electricity and water, but we wanted to inform. We had a wonderful time on this (almost) car-free island and the house of Birgit and Jacques was the key point of the success of our holidays. So the least we could do was to write a review to invite other persons to share this experience.

We are really sorry that the house was only 90% clean. Tunø is a very small island with around 100 people living there the whole year round - and there is only one couple willing to do the cleaning! So we do not have a choice and mostly its 100% OK! We have considered that people renting our house clean themselves when they leave - but this is not the best solution as well because: 1. we do not all have the same standard for what is clean or not! 2. having to leave the house in the morning (to take the ferry at time) cleaning at the same time...perhaps children running around as well we think is really not optimal! As we are living in Brussels I'm not able to do the cleaning myself after each occupation. We are on the island normally 4 x year - and when we are there I always make sure that the house is completely clean when we leave. Concerning the hot waterboiler: in every summerhouse in Denmark you will find the same - of course it all depends on how long you stay in the shower ....if you need 15 min for a shower you will have to make a little time between the showers around 5 to 10 minutes before the boiler has reheated the water. "Car free" means that only if you are building a house (or if techniciens comes to repair something) than you are allowed to bring a car - there is also an ambulance on the island because most of the inhabitants are over 60 years old! Otherwise you only see tractors like the traxa (that brought you to the house) and a few golfwagons that are used by some of the elderly people who have difficulties walking. We are pleased that you all in all had a nice stay.

Wonderful holidays! This was probably the best relaxing holiday I've ever had. Birgit and Jacques are the perfect hosts, eventhough we never met. They were always available for any questions and needs and provided us with all the informations we needed to spend a fantastic time in their wonderful house. Birgit even organised the pick up from the ferry to the house with a tractor Taxi, very cool and special experience :) this was also included in the price! The house is fantastic, stunning look at the sea, which starts directly behind the garden. The house is full of light, modern and spacious. Fully equipped with everything you might need during your holidays. The house is decorated and furnished with attention to detail. Tunø is a great place to spend your holidays, we never got bored, since there is so much to discover and your impression of the island changes every day, during the time of the day, in different light and weather situations. The roundcourse is about 9km over beaches, cliffs and forrests, always very close to the shore. The shop where you can literally everything you need, even if it is small, is just a 2min walk away from the house. Reasonably priced, so you don't need to take any food to the island. Also there are stalls with honesty boxes, where you can buy fresh fruit and veg from the island. I could go on and on how great this holiday was, but I would rather suggest you go there yourself and have a great and relaxing time on Tunø in this fantastic house! Thanks Birgit and Jacques, we will definitely come back to Tunø!

We are a Danish/Belgian couple living in Brussels in a town house close to Place St Job in Uccle.
We are both yoga teachers but only I (Birgit 59 years old) work as a yoga teacher for the moment. Jacques (63 years old) has his own engineering company in energy saving and he hope at some time being able to find more time to teach yoga as well.
We have been so fortunate to find a house where we have our own yoga studio, our "quartier" is like a small village, wonderful people around us and most of my students are neighbours.
We cannot imagine a life without yoga. When we travel its often related to yoga and we have been in India several times.
When we travel in Europe we prefer to stay in B & B.
BUT our summer house in Denmark on the island without cars is our favorite place - as we only can come during holidays we would like to share it with you.
