Live in tropical luxury at Swarnagiri House. Hidden away but close enough to local beaches and restaurants. Our house is bright, fresh and full of character. Come see for yourself!
Swarnagiri is a huge, airy colonial-era villa set in a quiet corner near Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka. It has plenty of character with its stunning antique doors, hand carved fretwork and stylish decor, and is the perfect place for families, friends or individuals to relax. Whether you want to soak up the sun on a nearby beach, curl up on the verandah and read your book, venture off on a safari or ramble around the streets of beautiful Galle, Swarnagiri is a simply lovely house to have as your holiday base.
You will be looked after by our housekeeper and cook, Sameera and Sulochena: they will welcome you, prepare breakfast for you to enjoy in the morning sun, help you with transport and try to answer any questions you might have. You can also ask them to do laundry if necessary. There are many and varied restaurants and cafes nearby; there is also the option of having Sulochena cook delicious rice and curry in the evenings if you prefer to stay at home.
There are four spacious rooms at Swarnagiri, three doubles (one en-suite) and a twin. You can relax in the knowledge that you'll have the entire place to yourself, but we think it is fair that you pay only for the bedrooms that you use. There is a large modern family bathroom, and one en suite bathroom. There is plenty of space to explore, both inside and out. The rooms all have air conditioning, hand made mattresses and beds and are decorated tastefully. There are also mosquito nets, although these are rarely necessary if you use the airconditioning at night. Outside, you'll find a huge jungly garden with some beautiful trees and plants in it as well as the occasional lizard.
Breakfast is an additional $5 per person and you can also ask the housekeeper to cook you rice and curry dinners for $10 per person. These are payable in cash directly to the housekeeper once you have arrived at Swarnagiri.
We love Swarnagiri and have had many wonderful holidays there with our families and friends. It is comfortable, relaxing and a really special place to stay. We think you would love it too!
Accès des voyageurs
You will be the only guests staying at Swarnagiri. Our housekeepers live in a separate part of the house so they are around if you need them but they should not bother you!
Échanges avec les voyageurs
The house is looked after by our resident housekeepers. They live in a separate part of the house with their two young children, and should not bother you at all during your stay. We also have an English manager, Emma, who is based in Galle and who usually pops in to visit at some point during your stay. She is the first point of contact for any queries, but if necessary you can also contact me by text in the UK.
Wifi at the house is slightly patchy: it is sometimes available but we cannot promise that it will be 100% reliable, as there is no mast in the area. Many of the cafes and restaurants at the beach in Hikkaduwa have wifi so you can use this if necessary.
There are sometimes electricity outages which are usually short and localised. The housekeepers will try to do everything they can to get things back on track if this does happen whilst you are staying.
We hope you find everything you need to enjoy your stay. Please treat the house as you would your own and report anything broken to Sameera or Sulochena.
There are some things which, however hard we try, we cannot control. Occasionally there are short electricity cuts (usually no longer than an hour), and because of the climate things get damp, particularly in the rainy season. Please bear with us on this - speak directly to Sulochena and if you feel your message is not getting through, send Emma a text! Nearly everything can be fixed with a bit of understanding and explanation.
Please only smoke outside.

My name is Alison, I live with my husband, two young children and our dog in Nottinghamshire, England. We work in a school, although at the moment I am at home looking after the children. We are all very enthusiastic travellers and have lived in Sri Lanka and Argentina as well as Scotland and England.
I met my husband in Sri Lanka and we both fell in love with the place and have been back many many times. We have had the house for about ten years now and have recently done a lot of work to renovate and improve it. It is a wonderful place and we have enjoyed many happy times there. Recently it's also proved a good international meeting point, with families from the UK and Singapore and the UK and India getting together. I am also very happy to help with putting guests in contact with drivers and safari guides, whom we know and trust. Please feel free to ask any questions!
