Georges met me on arrival, showed me around the apartment and gave me phone numbers in case of any problems. Fortunately none arose at all and I spent a highly enjoyable 4 weeks in St Palais, accompanied by my faithful dog, and for part of the stay, by visiting friends and family. The apartment is fantastically well situated, a few minutes walk from the delightful small town of St Palais and within a few metres of the excellent Nauzan beach. There was no noise from any neighbours and although there is no dedicated parking space, I was able to park and re park each day never more than a few metres away from the door. Having spent a month in the area I did not see any other property that was better suited to my requirements in terms of location.
The main bedroom is particularly well designed, with a brand new walk in shower room and huge windows onto the terrasse. The very large terrasse is in the sun from morning until late afternoon (I visited at the end of the season, so I would expect it even sunnier in July/August) and I spent many hours out there. Dining facilities are great for outdoor life, and the huge opening doors from the bedroom and main kitchen/ living room offer one large useable living space.
I imagine this would be great for people who like the beach life, particularly families, as it is so close as to be almost on the beach. There is a popular and quite chic café on the promenade of the beach at Nauzan ( Used many times, also a nice looking more formal restaurant, never used on this visit) In the town there are the usual range of Creperies, cafes and more expensive restaurants, with one terrific fish restaurant, La Regaline.
I can recommend Georges apartment , first for its position and memories of fantastic mornings with sun rising over the beach, and a great breakfast on the terrassse.Second for its location in respect of proximity to St Palais in one direction and seaside walks to the Casino beach at Pontaillac in the other. Finally, its good for getting into Royan with its quality shops and beautiful inspirational 50s architecture ( I couldn't fail to picture Audrey Hepburn being driven to the harbour in a convertible!)
I would certainly return.
