First, please check about availability before you try to book; and, don't forget to check the other listing(s):
This space is a huge, private suite, on the 2nd floor of a beautiful & well furnished 5 BR 4 BA home, on 10 very private acres, bordered on one side by 1/2 mile of frontage on Bayou Bourbeau, a tributary of Bayou Teche, yet only 16 miles north of Downtown Lafayette, LA. There are about 1250 Square Feet of covered porches, and a separate large round deck anchored by a massive, wood-fired, old world pizza and bread oven, with granite counters on which I can make pizza and cut and serve the pies that cook in less than 180 seconds...
This space is a large, upstairs bedroom suite with a private bathroom and separate exercise room. It is almost 700 SF with 3 queen beds, 2 sofas, a pool table and a private bathroom that includes a deep soak tub with shower and a sink. The bedroom is furnished with two occasional chairs and a small leather sofa, an antique roll-top desk, and a small private closet for your use.
The entire house is also potentially available by special arrangement, with or without catered meals, and can potentially sleep 12, plus another 6 on queen air mattresses that can be placed on the floor of the bedrooms upstairs. If you are potentially interested in the entire house, check ahead, because we live near the "Happiest City" in the United States - that is, Lafayette, Louisiana (for folks who haven't seen this famous study.) If this place is not available, and you need a recommendation of a place nearby, I have some great friends who are very close that I'd love to connect you with.

You'll be at the epicenter of Cajun and Creole culture, minutes away from the "Prairie Parishes" to the west, and the Atchafalaya Basin and the mighty Mississippi River and beyond, to the east. Dancing, music, nature, biking, antique shopping, birding, excellent dining, art and crafts, a great little theatre and one-of-a-kind cultural events including annual festivals for every thing you can imagine, not to mention the culturally authentic celebration of Mardi Gras, the Courir de Mardi Gras.
While here, guests can explore the property on nature walks, and are welcomed to use the outside decks, as well as the large downstairs living room. The washer and dryer are also available if needed, as is the kitchen, and private, catered gourmet meals are sometimes available by special request, for a small extra charge. Please inquire at booking if interested, and allow at least one week advance notice.

My guests are all fellow AIRBNB members - and most are independent. I welcome them into my home, and strive to make their stay and local experience memorable, comfortable, and FUN!. I respect their privacy, and expect them to respect mine, but I love to share the adventurous lives that are found here in SWLA. I have created a very unique, one-of-a-kind gem, nestled in an environment that spurs creative thinking, artistic inspiration, relaxation, quiet reflection and meaningful conversation - OR- they can hear local storytelling, dine on world-class food & enjoy libations, music, dancing, laughing, let-your-hair-down type of celebrating...
So, it all depends what guests want., with as much or as little as they desire.... Some guests want to be left alone to do their own thing, while others want more guidance, and like to hear about things to do, places to see, and great food to eat. Sometimes my schedule is laid back and other times I must travel during the day and so it all depends.
Guests who need more than usual... whether they want the entire place to themselves, or will need ideas, suggestions, or catered meals.... will need to check with me during booking to see what's possible during the time they will be staying here.
Check out the pictures from the May/June 2008 Issue of Acadiana Living Magazine.
What to Do while you're here? How long you got? Here's just the tip of the iceberg for fun... depending on when you're here, there will be other things to do & see, and GREAT FOOD to eat, oh my....
MARDI GRAS - This part of the state has the Courir de Mardi Gras, which is closer to the original version of the rural French celebration, a pre-Lenten day of revelry. Mardi Gras Day is always on Tuesday, and it falls anywhere from early February to mid-March. Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday" and it's always the day before Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of Lent, and is always 46 days before Easter, which can fall on any Sunday from March 23 to April 25, with the exact date to coincide with the first Sunday after the full moon following a spring equinox... Yea. Dates for the next 4 years: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
OTHER GREAT REASONS TO COME:
- Festival International - Late April - (URL HIDDEN) "Festival" is FREE, and includes hundreds of bands from all over the world, playing on 5 separate stages, that are set up in public parks and other locations in downtown Lafayette. It is usually the week before the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, but there are no $75 daily tickets to buy or long lines to stand in for food, water or bathrooms.... because it's FREE, and you can come and go as you like!
- Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival - May - (URL HIDDEN)
- Festival Acadiens - October - (URL HIDDEN)
- Blackpot Festival - End of October - (URL HIDDEN)
- Steampunk-Makers Fair - (URL HIDDEN)
My home is open to children including infants, so long as their parents take 100% of the responsibility for making sure they stay safe. My house was once "child-proof", but a long-time-ago reverted to adult-proof only... neither the 1000+ SF of outdoor decks nor the inside stairway have railings, and their are multiple bodies of water that non-swimmers should avoid.
I have 2 dogs who live outside, and 2 small pups who live inside. All 4 are very sweet and affectionate.... but extremely well behaved and they will leave you alone, or interact with you, if invited, at a minimum. I love animals, but will only accept pets with a fee and if discussed at the time of making your reservation.
The entire house and/or the house and property are available for large groups by special arrangement, requested well in advance, and with a $500, non-refundable deposit and cleaning fee. Other details apply.
Smoking is strictly limited to outside, away from the house, but you've got about 10 acres in which to smoke.
Other than that, there really aren't a lot of other rules around here, and the Golden Rule will usually suffice. Otherwise, please:
- do not hurt yourself or anyone else...
- do not destroy the environment (we share it)
- understand and be responsible in the area of consent in human relations, and please talk to someone if you have any questions.

I don't get to travel as much as I’d like, but when I do, I like to either stay right smack in the middle of the heartbeat of the big cities, or way out in the country, close to the edge of wide-open areas or near the edge of the wilderness. But, in either spot, I always want to make sure that I stay in REAL people's homes, and not in sterile, cookie-cutter hotels. My place is as close to a hybrid of these two ideals as I could find, at least for this part of the country. While I am less than 20 minutes from downtown Lafayette, LA, my home is nestled into a long ½ mile strip of wooded land, and bordered on one side by the small, but historically significant, Bayou Bourbeau. I share my home not only because it’s a very comfortable place to hang out, but because I have plenty of room leftover from my 5 kids who have all moved on, and who have their own homes, or are living away at college.
I believe that I live in one of the best places to EAT on planet earth, and I love to eat all types of foods. I have been cooking the local cuisine since I was 19, and can satisfy virtually any palate or craving, at least with a little bit of advance notice. When eating out, or traveling myself, I love to eat anything that's locally sourced, especially aromatic, spicy, ethnic foods which are my favorites. At home, I cook for myself almost every night, and if you stay with me for longer than a few days, we will most likely have a chance to share a meal. After your booking, and whenever my schedule allows, I always try to send an email to my future guests, with questions about whether they would like food included in some or all of their stay. If having food cooked for you and your party during most or all of your stay with me is something you might like, please let me know and I can send you a sample menu of what I can offer for groups to select from. For couples or individual needs, we can make anything happen, so don’t hesitate to ask, because I always strive to be very flexible. On the flip side and during my own travels, I sometimes like to cook a meal or two while staying with other Hosts, and I always invite them to eat whatever I cook at their place, if they would like.
