We had a great stay at this remodeled updated trullo house! The host was excellent, and the house was clean and comfortable. The house is a private house on a bit of land and is a tranquil spot perfect for relaxing. There is a restaurant nearby which is delicious and priced very reasonably. We also found the location convenient for visiting several different towns in the area. One thing to know (and the host will tell you) there are other charges associated with rental. There will be a cleaning fee, a linen fee, and you will also pay your utilities upon your departure. I did not feel these charges were exorbitant but was a little surprised to hear about them as it was the first time I have had to pay utilities. Other than that, the stay was great and I would recommend staying here!

Thank you for your review. Yes we don't accept bookings as soon as we see the request, because we send an e-mail first, informing about the need of reimbursement of the espenses which are indicated below. Only if we receive a positive answer, we accept the booking. The expenses to be reimbursed are what we actually pay for each stay: utilities (electricity, gas for heating and cooking, water), wifi, cleaning, washing and ironing of linen and towels. For us it's important to separate this reimbursement from the rent, as the price of the rent is very low, even lower if we consider that from that amount we take off the taxes, it is not enough to cover the mentioned expenses. Furthermore when we pay for utilities, wifi, linen, in their costs there are taxes, if we added them to the rent, we would pay twice the taxes for them. For this reason the rent and the other costs are separated. They are: 25 euro as contribution for cleaning, 5 euro per each for linen, 10 euro for 3 giga wifi. Regarding the utilities, they are calculated on the basis of meter reading, which we do with our guests, so their cost correspond to the actual use made by our guests.

First let me say that the house is beautiful, clean, and in a very centrally located to all the sights in the area. Ostuni-5 min, Alberobello-20min, Lecce-1 hour,Matera-1.5 hours. Now the negative- The check-inn process took 1.5 hours! She was 30 minutes late to our meet up point even though I messaged her twice about our arrival time. Once we got to the house, it took over an hour to explain the rules of the house. She also did not offer a welcome gift or maps/tourist brochures for the area, and the restaurant she recommended was closed. The check out process was equally bad. She came 45 minutes later than the time I asked to to meet, 15 minutes later than she said she would come. We had an 8 hour drive ahead of us- so this was an inconvenience. One last issue was that the gas heaters did not work. This was not a big deal for most of our trip, but we were cold the first night. I think that this could be a great place to stay if the host would fix these very fixable issues.

Yes, definitely the service can be improved, thanks to the experience gained every time we meet people. However it is important to clarify some points. Late check in: Normally for the check in we try to satisfy the requests of our guests, there is no fixed schedule. But of course it is important to know in advance the approximate time of arrival as we have to organize family and work commitments. The lady didn't communicate the time of arrival to me, although I asked, so I had to call her one day before arrival to arrange the time of arrival which was between 7.30 and 8 pm. The lady came 2.30 – 3.00 hours in advance, at 5 pm, although I had pointed out that, because I didn’t have news in advance about their arrival time, I had a work commitment in a city far from Ostuni between 5 and 7.30 pm. They were supposed to go to Matera before arriving to Ostuni, but they didn't. Nobody else could meet them at the time of their earlier arrival, and I didn’t want to keep them waiting, so I cancelled the work commitment, and quickly returned back to Ostuni. While she was sending messages, I was running back to Ostuni by car! But I couldn’t fly. Although I ran with the car I arrived 25 minutes late. I was not too worried about giving explanations on this delay because the day before the lady said that in case of early arrival they would go around and wait for me. I have realized that in these circumstances, it is better to confirm the time arranged in advance. It will also be very important to write down that the time is flexible for delays, but in case of early arrivals we may not be able to anticipate the meeting. Duration check in: We have made a choice: a worm welcome instead of simply handing over the keys and go (it would be easier for us, but we don’t like it). We rent from 2011 and we have received only positive reviews about the way we welcome our guests, they find it worm and helpful. The duration of the check in is between 40 and 60 minutes: we show the house, the garden, we record the details of the guests, and answer to their questions. This way is the result of years of experience about what people wish to know at their arrival. Of course if they are tired and need a quick check in, first of all they don’t make many questions, and ...they simply say it ! Saying it is a form of respect, which helps mutual relations, and it’s a sign of an equal relationship! I wonder if the estimated duration (1 hour or 1.5? It is unclear) also includes the time it took for me to accompany them to the supermarket, as they requested ... Restaurant closed: I simply pointed out that there is a restaurant with very good value for money, whih makes local recipes, very close to the house. Like any business it closes once a week. I also added that there are plenty of restaurants in the city center, and asked if they wished to get information about them and they said no. I do not understand where is the problem, if they found it closed one day, it was certainly open the days after. Heating: The heating works perfectly, other guests after them did not have any problem !! However I said that for any problem or requests of information they could call me, but they didn’t. Maps and brochures: There is plenty of maps and tourist brochures under the TV ! Late check out: Normally we arrange the time of the check-out upon arrival, this helps reconciling it with family and work commitments. I pointed out that there was also the opportunity of meeting for the check out the evening before departure. I received a text message the afternoon before departure suggesting 8 am on sunday as meeting time for check out. Since I had to accompany my son to a sports meeting, I suggested 8.30 am. I managed to arrive at 8.40, with 10 minute delay. I'm sorry for these 10 minutes late (which I don’t thing can make a big difference to a journey by car), which is not 45 minutes late as the lady claims! If the time suggested by me was not ok (8.30), they could decide to meet the evening before, but they didn’t. This approach left me very mortified ... I hope that guests communicate their needs in a clear and open way (as indeed is our experience from 2011!). This is a form of courtesy, which returns the courtesy with which they are welcomed.
