Description

Newly nearly refurbished terraced house on a narrow residential street, within walking distance of town centre and bus routes. Sleeps 5 in 'proper' beds, and can accommodate six using a temporary bed. Walk to the moors or explore the seaside (6miles)

I have just partially re-furbished the house. It is a normal terraced house in a residential street. You will notice a couple of places where I haven't quite finished the paintwork off, as the sunshine called! And I am waiting for funds to allow me to replace the kitchen and bathroom windows. There are two bedrooms, one huge with a king size bed, one with a bunk bed which sleeps 2 in a double at the bottom and one agile person on the top. There is also a single 'camp' bed available for larger groups/families, which could go in the lounge or in the big bedroom if you are all friendly! Huge bathroom with bath and shower cubicle. Outside decking with chairs. Dining table and six chairs inside. New kitchen, with dishwasher but no washing machine.
All bedding/towels are provided, and tea, coffee, basic toiletries.
I provide a breakfast package to cover your first morning, please let me know if there is anything you can't eat or don't like - a typical breakfast pack is eggs, bacon, bread, butter, milk and orange juice .

The understairs cupboard and the cupboard in the big bedroom house all my paints and renovation materials, and should be avoided! The end cupboards in the kitchen have my stuff in them. I try to leave basic food in the cupboards in case you arrive starving late at night, please replace anything you use up eg soup/beans/pasta/sauce

I work in Rhodes, Greece, in an ambulance converted into a mobile physiotherapy clinic for part of each year, usually May to August and September until November. This means that if you arrive in these time periods, you will have to use the key safe for access. I leave comprehensive written instructions/advice sheets, but feel free to ask anything else you would like to know. My co-host cleans and puts out the breakfast pack, but is unable to meet you due to her work commitments.

The house is on a quiet and friendly residential street within 5 minutes easy walk to the town centre, where you will find shops, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, and the local market, which is held on the main street, Westgate, on the cobbles every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I provide a parking permit for one car on the streets near the house. The town houses the ancient Gisborough Priory, a small local museum, and Gisborough Hall, where there is also a spa. Guisborough [the spelling changed at some point in ancient history!] was the ancient capital of Cleveland, and the home of the De Brus family. There is a forest above the town, which leads up to the North Yorks Moors. Ample walking country at your finger [foot?] tips, with the Cleveland Way passing through the town. Saltburn and Redcar seaside towns are within 8 miles, and the ancient port of Whitby is 20 miles away, and easily accessible by bus/car.

The nearest major town is Middlesbrough, where there is a main railway station. You can get to Guisborough from here by bus [about 40 minutes, on the X93 to Whitby/Scarborough], or take a train from Middlesbrough to Redcar and catch a bus from there [about 20 minutes], or take a taxi. Some folk have tried taking a train to Nunthorpe hoping to find a taxi there, but it is a tiny station with no taxi rank. Bus information can be found by typing ARRIVA into an internet search engine. Your nearest bus stop would be Guisborough Marketplace.

There is a dishwasher, but no washing machine at the house. The carpets are cream, so either shoes off or well wiped, please.... The stairs are quite steep, and there is a step down into the bathroom, worth noting if you have children or reduced mobility. Although there is a cat flap in the new back door, no cats have lived at the house for over 10 years. However, it has now hosted quite a few dogs, and my cat stays here with me sometimes, please note if you have severe pet allergies. [If I eventually move fully into the house, my cat will be coming to stay, hence the cat flap]. It is worth noting for everyone that Guisborough is in a bit of a technological blackspot - 3 and 4G are hopeless, and we can't get digital TV without boosters either! Personally I like pen and paper and a good book, but I probably have dinosaur tendencies....

Non fumeur

Please help to protect the environment by placing all used bedding and towels in the bath at the end of your stay and leave the house as you would wish to find it to help to keep cleaning costs down. Smoking outside only. And bring the outside chairs in at the end of your stay, please, otherwise they blow all over the yard. Well behaved pets with clean paws and no furniture chewing tendencies are welcome, but if they cause extra cleaning we will have to charge you! Thanks.

Hi, I am Jane! I am a physiotherapist and alternative health practitioner [ acupuncture, neural pathodynamics and cranio-sacral therapy]. I have a clinic in the UK and in Rhodes, Greece, and I also have an ex English ambulance, converted into motor home, which I drive off to Greece in mid May with two cats, then take out the bed, put in a treatment couch, and voila! a mobile physiotherapy clinic which parks under a mulberry tree with a view of the Aegean Ocean! It's a hard life, but someone has to do it.
Happy travels, wherever you are coming from, or going to!
