Description

Set in the Garden and Orchard, with fence surrounding the small yard and patio. View of river from bed.

The bed is a queen-sized memory foam mattress, positioned above a large storage space for luggage. The Wagon is lit by two solar lanterns and candles for mood. For your night comfort a chamber pot is included, with a compost toilet/outhouse nearby. Main toilets and showers are located a short distance at the Haven.

In the compact space, the table slides out from beneath the bed. The perfect venue for early morning coffee (coffee beans and a hand grinder are provided) or tea (Lemon Balm Tea provided), a light lunch or an evening game of cribbage.

After a hike in the nearby mountains, a stroll up Cow Creek, Salmon or Steelhead fishing, or a raft or kayak trip down the Salmon River, you might want to return to the wagon to freshen up. A pitcher of water and guest soaps are provided. There are also large fluffy bath sheets provided, for trips to the Mavens’ Haven swimming hole or the sauna. If you would like to sauna, let one of the apprentices know two hours ahead of time so that they can have it fired up and hot! The sauna and river access is located at the Haven, a half block from the rental.

Or perhaps you would prefer starting a little warming fire in the stove (small is the word here, as it takes very little to make the Wagon toasty warm). Perk a freshly ground pot of coffee or brew a cup of tea.

Mavens' Haven has a full kitchen for guests who wish to cook meals. The apprentices use the kitchen, as well, so please clean up afterwards. No one lives in the main building, it is a communal space and guests are welcome to make use of it. There are great spaces for reading and relaxing, there.

The orchard and gardens produce fresh vegetables most of the year. Guests are encouraged to help themselves when preparing meals ~ there are always fresh eggs in the refrigerator for your use.

There is wifi in the Haven, as well as library, game room and downstairs movie room. There are chairs around the koi pond, as well as around the fire pit. Our pickleball court is just yards away. The roof top of the sauna is a popular place for guests to sit and watch the river.

My husband and I are at the Haven most weekends (we stay in the little cottage near the main house (i.e. the Haven). There are often resident apprentices on site, as well, to assist you.

The community is small and the locals are private but friendly. Please respect their property and privacy. There are many places to visit within the boundaries of the Haven. There is also a nice place to walk by crossing the bridge and going up Cow Creek.

Mavens' Haven is remote and public transport is unavailable. However, the Greyhound bus does pass by and will make a stop is notified in advance. The nearest store is Fiddle Creek, three miles south. It is an eclectic fruit stand and hardware store, with regional honey and other gourmet items available. The town of Riggins, which has restaurants and a grocery store is seven miles from the Haven.

There is a small post office in Lucile, a short walking distance from the Haven. The Riggins area claims itself as the "whitewater capital of the world". There are float trips daily throughout the summer offered through a wide variety of outfitters. In spring and autumn there are dory and jet boat fishing trips.

Maven's Haven is awesome. The overall feel of the place is amazingly peaceful. Between the communal house, garden, orchard, river, sauna, trailers, and multiple "nooks and crannies" to get away, the value and experience can't be beat. I think the place deserves one note of caution for some... This is a rustic, "close to nature" kind of place. If a spider in your trailer or some bird-poop on your table freak you out, you might want look at a hotel room, instead.
