Wake up to the sunrise and shower with the birds. The single room apartment has one of the best views in the region. A blue ocean and lush green valley panorama with Byron Bay's iconic lighthouse in the distance.

Le logement
We have a beautiful rural home near the Crystal Castle ten minutes drive from Mullumbimby with breathtaking views of the ocean and Byron Bay in the distance!

Situated on 22 acres of Byron hinterland farm land and bordering a nature reserve we have a great, private single room, self contained apartment on the ground floor of our house for one or two guests.

The apartment has a basic kitchenette, laundry, TV, queen size bed, fold out sofa lounge, wifi internet. Entrance is separate to the rest of the house which adds to the privacy. We often don't see guests after check in unless interested in a farm tour.

Although you don't have to be vegan to stay with us we prefer not to have meat or similar foods in the house. At least if someone needs to consume animal products we ask they take all the left overs when they depart. We provide a vegan continental breakfast of muesli and soy milk, bananas, local coffee and tea etc.

The solar heated rainwater, naturist shower and bath are outside in the garden so it may not suit everyone but anyone who likes to feel at one with nature will love it. It's our most popular feature and comes with a clothing optional area for sun lovers to get an all over tan! It's like showering under a warm waterfall with fresh air and greenery all around. There is NO inside shower or bath so consider if that aspect will suit before booking. There is a shower screen so you won't be seen but we still get complaints about it being outside in the open air and close to the house. Many of our guests are naturists (nudists) who visit the legal nudist beach not far from us and our listing suits free spirited naturist types the best. Nudists often stay in our other Airbnb so if the sight of naked people or the idea of an outdoor shower makes you uncomfortable maybe choose a different Airbnb.

The property is a working banana farm. Although we are not certified organic we manage the farm using natural systems and we don't use chemicals. We harvest year round and love showing off the property and farming operation and sharing ideas about landscape management and sustainability, We always have lots of bananas for guests.

Over half the property is natural bushland with lots of wildlife including koalas, wallabies, echidnas, rare birds and frogs. We are close to or are part of nature. Sometimes harmless bugs or spiders take up residence in the room but they are completely harmless. We prefer not to use actually harmful toxic sprays so best not to book if you are afraid of bugs or spiders.

Rates start at $80 per night and vary according to seasonal demand. Longer term stays are welcome and very negotiable so if you're interested in accommodation for a week or a month or more don't hesitate to contact us and ask questions or make an offer.

Accès des voyageurs
The apartment is a granny flat on the ground floor of our house. It's self contained and private with it's own entrance and parking directly outside. None of the space is shared with others.

Autres remarques
Our property borders a nature reserve so there is no shortage of bugs and insects around. Sometimes spiders will find their way into the room but they are all harmless. Contact us if you discover any unwelcome guests and we will evict them.

Mullumbimby is a cool little town that leans towards an alternative culture. It has some nice arty shops and coffee shops and the town is surrounded by rainforest. There is always something different on offer like alternative workshops, festivals and markets.

There are some great bush walks in the area and Minyon Falls is just down the road. The property has some beautiful bushwalks including one to the top of our hill where you will see some of the best views in the region.

We are about a 20 min drive from Byron Bay and 15 minutes from the beaches of Brunswick Heads. The closest beach is Tyagarah, a legal nudist beach.

I'm a hippie banana farmer from Mullumbimby near Byron Bay. My parents bought our piece of paradise over thirty years ago when the farming communities were in decline and land was cheap. We immediately went about restoring the degraded, weed infested natural bushland which includes koala habitat and threatened ecosystems. Since 1980 we have planted over eight thousand trees grown from seed collected from local remnants and removed acres of weeds. I love rainforests can identify most species in the local area and can recognise local birds from their calls. We took over management of the degraded four hectare banana plantation and converted it to a more organic or biological system. Previously chemicals were used and soil erosion was slowly destroying the landscape. We created swales (terraces) to catch and slow water movement and planted cover crops to hold the precious topsoil in place. Our main source of fertiliser is farm grown chipped wood and compost used as a mulch. We are essentially taking carbon from the atmosphere where it is a problem and storing it in the soil where it is useful but lacking. Carbon feeds the microbial life that is essential to plant health and our farm philosophy revolves around that fact. Harmlessness is something we apply to every aspect of our project. We aim to not harm the land and respect all the life that inhabits it including microscopic life under the soil surface. I'm married to Suzy who works as a flight attendant. We are vegan and hope guests respect and accept our philosophy. We welcome anyone into our home who is interested in nature, sustainability, peace and compassion, alternative thinking and lifestyles.. or anyone who is respectful of our beautiful property. We love sharing our house and amazing property with appreciative people so send us a message if you want to discover paradise or just want to say hello. If you don't have the opportunity to stay but are in the area and are curious about what a sustainable banana farm looks like I usually can spare half an hour to show it off. There's a free banana smoothie in it for anyone who is interested enough.
