Description

These small (8'10" x 6'6" or 2.69m x 1.98m) wooden cabins look out to sea through fully glazed double doors, outdoor deck., on an organic farm, bedding provided, shared kitchen, hot showers, toilets & utilities. If this pod / cabin is booked there are 3 others please see my other listings - Oyster Catcher / Arctic Tern / Heron (Heron is dog friendly)

These (8'10" x 6'6" or 2.69m x 1.98m) wooden structures, designed and built on the farm, resembling the traditional upturned boat shelter, offer lined and insulated accommodation for those who prefer not to travel ladened with tent, bedding and cooking equipment. They sleep 2 - 4 but we advise 2-3 people as with 4 people there is no floor space left.

They look out to sea through fully glazed double doors and provide an indoor/outdoor living option with their outdoor deck, very helpful for our changeable weather.

Bicycles and vehicles can be parked discreetly beside and an outdoor storage box is provided or space in the tractor shed. Inside, a simple platform provides double or single bed options or raised seating.

Each eco cabin has bedding and towels, lighting, small heater, extra electricity socket, blankets. They are cosy also in winter. The kitchen, loos and showers are nearby and shared with the campers. Please note there are 4 cabins please enquire for availability.

On an organic farm with fresh produce available to buy on the campsite and organic dried products. Beautiful sea view.

Wheems is in a beautiful location and would be great for a back to basics getaway. Sadly my trip was spoilt by feeling uncomfortable in a pod which had hair from previous pets and people who had stayed there. I had not booked a pet friendly pod, but on arrival I had been moved from the curlew pod as advertised to a different one. My main issue was that I was unable to sleep for the two nights I stayed before having to make alternative arrangements. The pod had carpet hanging around the outside which was repeatedly blown in the wind. this resulted in constant hitting noise and the sensation of the carpet against the wood of the pod underneath you. The futon mattress is very thin and so you felt every hit of the carpet. Since leaving the hosts have been very apologetic and have looked to resolve the issues.

SOUL SOOTHING. Wheels Farm is a wonderful place to escape the rat race for a while and just enjoy the beauty and simplicity of big skies, stunning vistas and warm, friendly people. The facilities are good with lovely hot showers, a well equipped camping kitchen, washing machine and drying area. It is basic but that's the beauty of this place, no airs and graces, somewhere you can really relax. We were encouraged to have a good look around the farm, we said hello to the ducks and goose, were entertained by the chickens and observed by the sheep. It was in a great location for exploring and there is so much history on these islands that you are spoilt for choice what to do. I would definitely recommend a trip to the Ring of Brodgar, it's stunning and moving and beautiful. I would definitely recommend Wheems to anyone wishing to visit Orkney, we stayed in one of the bothy huts and it was cosy and dry, even on a very very windy night. The view out of the glass doors was stunning with clear views over the bay and beyond! A very big thank you to Islay and the volunteers.

This is glamping with a difference. I was in the Oyster picker boothy and the views are amazing! The roar of the sea, under the clearest night sky. There was a little heater in the boothy, but it wasn't that effective - I was very glad I brought lots of blankets and layers with me as I was freezing on the first night. The second wasn't too bad, but still pretty chilly. I should think it's a lot better if there are two of you. The kitchen area had everything you'd need, there is no oven, but hobs, kettles and a toaster. There were plenty of toilets and showers, which were in the same shed as the washing machine. Just outside St Margarets Hope, this is an ideal base to explore the island and Mike was really helpful, lending me a couple of maps for the two days I was there. A great little place, but take layers and blankets if visiting in the autumn/winter!

Hi Sonia, Thank you for your review, I am so sorry that you were cold! This is very unusual as there are 2 heaters in every cabin now so I think Dad must have been too busy on the farm to install the new ones in that cabin in time for Aut/Winter which I am surprised at and I am distressed to hear you were cold. We supply 4 blankets with the bedding in every cabin also so the idea is that people don't need to bring this kind of thing. I am glad that you had a nice stay despite the cold and that Dad was helpful. We will make sure that the cabins are warm at this time of year in future. Very best, Islay

What a wonderful little spot on Orkney. "Everyone gets the view" is right - so beautiful here. We stayed in the cabins and were snug and dry even in the wet and windy weather. Thanks for our home away from home!

Warm and cozy cabin with a stunning view of the coast. Islay and Mike were not around often, but were very helpful and accommodating when they were. 2 things of note for visitors: 1) there is a fully functional shared kitchen, but a £2 donation is required to use the hot plate if you're making a full meal 2) visiting without a car is possible, you just need to walk about 30 minutes to get to the bus stop at St. Margaret's hope We really enjoyed our stay and dream of coming back to visit again.

the location was fantastic, the facilities were excellent and the cabin was very cosy, exactly as described. 2 days was nit long enough to explore these magical islands, and I will definitely be returning

I live between Edinburgh and Orkney most of the time and I feel very lucky to live in Scotland.
Wheems Organic Farm Campsite and Eco Cabins is a small family run business. I was brought up at Wheems and it is the most beautiful location I know.
I love to travel and meet new people and we all enjoy having guests at Wheems, to know they are appreciating the view of the sea and the surroundings and it's great when people enjoy the organic food we grow on the farm so much. My Dad Michael and my brother Daniel are based at Wheems organic farm and are very helpful.
My family and I at Wheems Organic Farm are concerned about environmental sustainability, the whole place is powered by renewable energy - wind, solar and ground source and we provide good recycling facilities.
The sunny room in Edinburgh is my house where I live with my boyfriend Duncan, we rent rooms out sometimes when one or both of us are out of the country. When we are out of the country, I am still contactable on an international sim which is cheap to call. Duncan is very laid back and very good natured to live with.
