As featured in the July/August 2017 issue of Home & Design, This 200 year old Hunters Retreat, has been completely renovated to the highest standards. Please note that there is a spring house on the property that is not fenced in and could be a hazard to young kids, therefore we do not allow children under the age of 10.
Welcome to this beautiful remodeled historic home.
The main house has 3 bedrooms, two on the upstairs floor that is joined by one large bathroom with separate toilet. On the main floor is another bedroom that has a VERY comfortable pull out couch with a private toilet and has a full bathroom on the lower level. It's a 200 year old old house, so the layout is not your standard one. The guest cottage has a separate listing on airbnb (called super cosy cottage on large estate) , but can be rented with the main house so everyone can be together. Hence is why the listing states that it sleeps 8. If you would like to book for 8 people though, I will need to check that the guest house is available during that weekend as it has a separate listing on airbnb.
Being an interior designer from Belgium, I designed the main house with an eclectic yet rustic feel, that is warm and inviting. It's not what you will find typically in the Middleburg area, as it has a European flavor, but it has been completely remodeled and offers everything you would need as if you were staying at a boutique hotel with a kitchen. Comfortable bed with feather duvet, hardwood floor, full kitchen including dishwasher and microwave a rain shower in the bathroom and a big screen TV with comfortable seating in the living room and a historic stone patio.
Accès des voyageurs
The property is set on goose creek, you can go for walks for hours, go to the creek, to Middleburg town or the Spa at the Salamandar, all 5' away, or visit some of the best wineries in VA that is starting at 3 miles from our house (Greenhill), you can also bring your horses as we have stalls and turn out available but do contact me ahead of time for this.
Again, if you would like to book for 8 people, let me know so that I can check if the guest house is available. We have only used the best materials during this remodeling and are only interested in people that appreciate a high end home and will treat it with respect. This is NOT a "hunt cabin".
Welcome to our humble abode! We hope that you enjoy this house as much as we do, but first, while you get comfortable, we wanted to review over a couple of rules for the house to make sure that you have the most enjoyable stay possible:
Please remove your shoes inside
If it is raining or the ground outside is muddy, please enter through the mudroom downstairs.
Please DO NOT USE the Miele built in coffee machine; it is easy to break if one is unfamiliar with the machine. Instead, there is a percolator for your use.
The countertop in the kitchen is made out of Tadelakt. Since it is a porous material, please do not leave wine bottles or coffee cups on counter. Please wipe up after use.
Most important, when chopping items, please make sure to ALWAYS USE A CUTTING BOARD AT ALL TIMES; DO NOT CUT DIRECTLY ON THE COUNTERTOP. This will prevent markings from knives and other sharp materials.
About the range: there is a convection range. There is a manual in the drawer in the office if you need to use/see it, but it works just like any other range, except it is much faster.
WIFI Network: Berryman
Passcode: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
Unfortunately, there is no WIFI accessibility in the Guest House.
Music: the main floor and outside are Sonos- accesible. To use it, you need to download the Sonos app and then access and connect to the existing network. (do not attempt to install a new network).
The TV cable box is located in the closet in the family room, behind the desk. You will need to keep the door open and direct the remote at the cable box to change the channels.
The dining table is very fragile to scratches. If you would like to use it as a serving table, there is a purple tablecloth located in the closet in the dining room that you can use.
The outdoor dining table is temporary; the one we have ordered for outside has yet to come in. There are two outdoor dining table cloths in the dining room closet (yellow/white/beige and blue/beige) for your use; these can be left outside.
For the kitchen table, please use the placemats in the drawers.
For general cleaning, please do not use any abrasive materials to clean the kitchen, the yellow side of the sponge and detergent is all you need.
Before leaving, please turn off all lights and air conditioning and return the house key into the lockbox.
The switch for the outdoor string lights can be found outside, on the right side of the stairs when walking into the lawn.
The heaters for the covered patio are switched on at the patio, you will see a switch under a cover plate. Please do NOT leave these on overnight.
The fireplaces are set in the family room and dining room., and there’s more mood on the patio. The one in the kitchen is gas only and the one is the master bedroom should NOT be used as the liner is not working in the flue.
You turn on the gas fireplace in the kitchen by holding down the off button and the large flame button (top right simultanesouly). After it beeps, you release and then some clicking will sound and 1 min or so later the flames will start. Please do NOT leave it on if you’re leaving the house.
(URL HIDDEN)Feel free to use the firepit. There should be plenty of wood piled up.
There’s floor heating in the kitchen and bathroom. You can leave these on as much as you like, or you can switch off but when you check out please make sure they are turned off. You turn them on by hitting the on button, lower left.
This is our weekend home, we live about an hour away but can always come by should there be any issues.
