À propos de ce logement

The apartment is easy to find in one of Reykjavik's most favorable neighborhoods, just 15 min walk to the core of the old city center going down the main shopping street "Laugavegur". Located in the heart of Reykjavik within close proximity to most destinations. Plenty of parking in a quiet save parking lot behind the house. The house is a building of 5 other apartments, hosting each of my wonderful neighbors.

Description

The apartment is easy to find in one of Reykjavik's most favorable neighborhoods, just 15 min walk to the core of the old city center going down the main shopping street "Laugavegur". Located in the heart of Reykjavik within close proximity to most destinations. Plenty of parking in a quiet save parking lot behind the house. The house is a building of 5 other apartments, hosting each of my wonderful neighbors.

The space includes one master bedroom with a double bed, one small bedroom with a 100 cm wide bed, and the third quite large room that originally was one-half of the living room but has now been isolated as a single bedroom containing a 120 cm bed that could be shared by couples. We have comfortable sized bathroom and a kitchen with a kitchen table. The living room is quite nice with a balcony having an overview of "Hallgrimskirkja", the biggest church in Reykjavik. The living room has a sofa and a dining area.

The flat is on the second floor, and you have the whole place for yourself. The stairway is common with five other flats, all very good neighbors, but as you may imagine they are decent quiet types so the appreciate common respect with regards to late hour noises.

I take pride in in assisting my guests in every way that I can. Reykjavik has been my home town my whole life so I am happy to share information.

In the 1950's the population in Reykjavik grew rapidly since the economy was booming and people who had been living in smaller places and farmers had a chance of a better live by moving there. During this time there was not much space so the authorities decided to build several houses around the central core. This is one of those houses, must have been a suburban back then, but the city's core has shifted as the years have gone by, and now this area is placed just a few hundred meters from the main financial district of Iceland and as the city has grown bigger, it is now more central than ever.
We pride ourselves also that we are just 500 m from the historical house Hofdi, where Reagan and Gorbasjov met in 1986 to discuss the end of the cold war.

This apartment is excellent for getting around. The transportation options include the standard city bus system with bus stops around the city, one being 2 min from the house.
Taxis will arrive couple of minutes after called on the phone.
But bear in mind that Reykjavik is a small city on the international scale so one hour on foot gets you basically from one end to another of most interesting areas to see. And even bikers living in the heart of the city (like myself :) ) feel pretty good about themselves getting around that way.

112 is the emergency number for Iceland.
Usually when I arrive to Iceland, it takes me about 1,5 hours from the time the airplane lands until I reach my home destination. So if you are going to provide me with arrival time, 1,5 - 2 hours from landing is a good rule of thumb.

Fantastic host: Hrolfur was kind enough to receive us at the apartment and give us pointers on where to buy food in the neighbourhood. Flat is comfortable and conveniently located near Hallgrímskirkja (7 min walk to the church). We stayed for 1 night. Be sure to open the windows if you cook: we set off the fire alarm while cooking chicken breasts on the stove.

We had a very pleasant stay here. The apartment is quiet and not very far from the harbor and downtown. The small kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment and dishes. Although there is street parking we always managed to find a spot right in front. I would gladly stay here again.

Great experience! The apartment was cozy and tidy, and reasonably close to downtown. Hrolfur was very helpful and gave us some tips and things to check out in the area. Wish we could have spent 2 or 3 days here, but it was the last night before we left. Would definitely stay here again.
