Description

Upstairs cozy private 2 bedroom suite, private bath and open breakfast nook. Use both bedrooms as you like and if you want privacy from someone you are traveling with, just close the connecting door. We are in town in the historic district a block from restaurants, shops and museums, but moments from wine country, hiking, boating, waterfalls! The back of our house leads down to what we call the "lower 40" on Van Cleef Lake where we have a fire pit & chairs to relax in and enjoy the view.

The two bedroom suite upstairs is completely private from the rest of our home. Both rooms have very comfortable queen beds. The rooms are adjoining so you can leave the connecting door open or closed. Each room also has its own entrance onto the upstairs landing where there is also an open breakfast nook with floor to ceiling windows that overlook the historic park across the street. The private bath has an antique claw-foot tub / shower.

There is no kitchen, but daily we provide coffee, assorted teas and morning pastries in the breakfast nook. There is a small refrigerator for such things as chilling wine and cheese.

You have private use of our front porch veranda and access to the "lower 40" down by the lake where there is a dock, fire pit and chairs to relax in.

The entrance is the front door of our home where the guest porch is. When you come in there is a small reception area before you go up the stairs to your suite. Our downstairs has doors to this area that we keep closed when you are here to give you full privacy. We live downstairs in the rest of the house.

Guests will have total privacy upstairs. However, we love to share information about our favorite sites and restaurants and will always make sure that you are well taken care of! Laurie is a certified wine educator and can help create a wonderful wine tasting itinerary, and Chris always has fun ideas of other adventures in the area.

Our home is a classic Gothic Revival Cottage in the center of the Historic District on Van Cleef Lake, part of the Erie Canal System, with beautiful views and a very private setting. We are located just a block from downtown.

Restaurants, museums, weekly farmers' market in the summer, ice cream, morning cappuccinos are all within easy walking distance anywhere in the village. Wineries, breweries, local artisanal cheese shops, waterfalls, state parks, hiking, fishing, lakeside dining, historic places and tours, drive in movie theatre, and so much more only minutes away by car.
Area destinations in the Finger Lakes, Rochester, Ithaca or Syracuse are within less than an hour's drive. Great central location for day trips...or going nowhere and relaxing!

We will have maps ready and waiting for you with many suggestions to plan the experience you are interested in while visiting this amazing area!

You can walk to town and there are bus and limo tours of the wineries if you prefer not to drive.

The yard in the back of our home slopes down to the lake and our dock where we have a fire pit and chairs for your use. You provide the wood (there are road side stands that sell to campers for $5 a bundle) and we supply the marshmallows and roasting sticks!
We also have a "Tiny House" that is located in the corner of the "lower 40" that is right on the lake. If there are guests there when you are, both parties can share the outdoor amenities.

Hi... my husband Chris is an avid sailor and enjoyer of wine, traveling, historic preservation and is a nonprofit management and fundraising specialist. He loves sharing about all the wonderful things to do in the Finger Lakes and helping you seek out unique adventures.

We have lived in NYC, Chicagoland, Detroit/Ann Arbor, Annapolis/WDC and Paris (FR), and traveled widely. For the past 10 years we have been living in the Finger Lakes (aka Wine Country to Laurie) and Seneca Falls, the birthplace of Women's Rights.

I myself (Laurie here) may not be an avid sailor, but I am definitely an enjoyer of traveling (January 2107 in Iceland was an adventure!) and wine. Immediately after moving here, I dedicated myself to learning more about wine. I took numerous internationally certified courses and became a Wine Educator, managed a winery, and hosted monthly Wine Salons for a number of years. Now, I have retired to just enjoying wine!

We love it here and would love to help you do the same! If there is anything that we can do to make your visit as more enjoyable, just let us know. We have hosted people from around the country and around the world and have thoroughly enjoyed meeting every single guest. We look forward to meeting you!!
