If you want to get a real feel for the laid back, peaceful island nature of Hilo, Denise's sweet little penthouse is for you. She has anything you would need for cooking and extra perks for outdoor fun plus a great selection of books. Sleeping on the lanai was a slice of heaven.

The open feeling of screens all around and the nearby beach park make this a favorite stop for us in Hilo. It's a wonderful sleeping environment.

Location, location, location. Denise's place is adjacent to Onekahakaha Beach park and has the feel of Old Hilo as the warm breezes blow through and the ocean roars beyond the breakwater. The place is comfortably funky. We never heard a peep from the tenants below except for the cat which greeted us warmly outside every time we came or went. Because we had rented a Ford Explorer, we often chose to park near the Park gate due to the driveway and turnaround space being somewhat narrow for such a large vehicle. If we stay again, we would use a smaller vehicle.

It was lovely to see and hear the ocean waves from anywhere in Denise's place. Being up on the second floor was breezy and kept us cool. Sleeping on the screened-in lanai was a wonderful experience. Being right next to the park makes this a good location with easy access to other beach parks, downtown Hilo, and the farmer's market. We would stay again and highly recommend it.

I loved every moment staying in Denise's place. The location is fantastic. Short drive into Hilo and the ocean just a short walk away. There was a bike for my use and many beautiful nearby beaches. There were a few days I rode the bike and never even drove my car. The penthouse is comfortable and has everything you need. Even a couple of snorkels. You can see and hear the ocean as you sit in comfort and style. The front porch and fantastically large bedroom are screened in and give a great open air experience. Loved being able to wash my clothes and hang out to dry. For the particular traveler who expects things to be "just so" I will forewarn that the bathroom has a vanity but not a sink. For me, all the benefits of this wonderful place far outweighed this one minor detail. I would love to stay at Denise's place again.

I stayed at Denise's penthouse for a month and it couldn't have been a better place to explore Hilo. It's minutes away from all of the best beach parks in the area and is tucked away in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood right by the water. The host was beyond helpful and super responsive anytime I reached out. I also bought a bike during my stay and left it at the Airbnb if any future guest would like to use it- Hilo can be biked rather conveniently. Definitely recommend.

We particularly enjoyed the "outdoor sleeping porch" (screened)...We both enjoy the sound of the Coqui frogs, as they remind of us of our years living on Roatan, Bay Is. of Honduras...lots of frogs, etc. at night!! The ocean is near enough to hear the waves at night, too! The swimming area is perfect for families...waist deep (URL HIDDEN) total, we were very enchanted!! We truly enjoyed the numerous geckos and their antics...maybe reptile haters wouldn't??

I am a semi retired veterinarian and like to travel and volunteer over seas. I will be travelling to Uganda to work at their Wildlife Rehabilitation project for three months this year. I spent three months at a favorite place in Mexico, Yelapa where I have been going for 30 years and did "jungle veterinarian medicine" there for man years being paid with eggs or meat or fruit or rides on their horse or mule for spaying and neutering their dogs and cats, castrating a horse or pig, or sewing up a fighting cock (which I did mumbling and complaining that they should not fight their birds), and numerous other procedures.
I love Hilo and love that I can go out my door and go swimming in the ocean. There is a lot to do here from going to cultural events to hiking, to viewing events at the Volcano National Park etc. . I have a vegetable garden and also grow Papaya, pineapple, coconuts, avacados, Macnuts and passion fruit on my small lot. I just went to a musical review performed by local talented folk on "hapa Haole" music from the early ninteen hundreds at the historic Palace theater in Hilo. So good.
My favorite books recently read were Alexander McCall Smith's, Bertie Plays the Blues, and The Minor Adjustment Beauty Salon. I love to read.
I love my home and hope that you will too. I have my treasures from my travels here. I am renting it out so I can volunteer my veterinary skills more. You know that one has to pay to volunteer these days and with air fare etc. things add up. So thank you for helping. I hope you love Hilo and my home as do I. My favorite motto is "Go for it". I do, and it looks like you do to. Have a great stay.
