Here's about an honest review as you'll read: There are three elements to this rental, 1) the unit, 2) the resort, 3) the neighbourhood. The Unit. The unit is fine and functional. Don't expect marble countertops and fine linens, but everything is there that you would need. You've got a kitchen/dining room/living room area. 2 fair-sized bedrooms (not shown in pictures) each with bunk beds (double at bottom, single at top). Bathrooms are small, one is accessible from the main hallway, the other is an ensuite from the master bedroom. The living room couch pulls out into a queen-size bed. The electronics (TVs, Cable, Internet, Blue-ray) are all good quality and the internet is surprisingly fast. The mattresses are comfortable but the pillows are a bit cheap and not good for side sleepers (I ended up buying a pillow at BB&B during the trip). The place probably needs a facelift, but like I said before, it's fully functional, so if you're not expecting full 4/5-star quality, you'll have everything you need. The door is accessed with a Yale Smart Lock, so you need to remember the password but it's much better than lugging around a key everywhere. The unit was completely bare of consumables (2 rolls of toilet paper, no soap/shampoo, no salt/pepper or any other food), so you'll need to come prepared. I recommend you pack basic food seasonings, washer pods for each day (you end up washing towels a lot), and dishwasher pods. There are however, plenty of beach toys, pool noodles, body boards, tennis rackets, minigolf putter, and other toys to keep the young ones entertained (which is really nice). The unit is all the way at the end of the resort, just by the beach, which is convenient for beach-goers. The children pools and play grounds are one building over. 2) Aquatika Resort. So this was a bit of a surprise for us. We were there for a whole week in March and it was a ghost town. It's mostly owned by locals that go there on the weekends and the high season is during their summer. Expect busy weekends and quiet weeks. The security within the unit is good so you feel safe. The resort is well maintained but is also in need of a slight refresher. It's basically hundreds of units in two buildings that run the entire length of the grounds on both sides, while the pool and recreational areas are sandwiched in the center. There is a series of pools, hot-tubs, and kid playgrounds along the center. The beach, which is only about 500 feet wide, is not maintained by the property. It's nice but not breathtaking, yet fine for the kids. There is no restaurant or bar on the property, so you're mostly on your own for food. The water slide is only open on the weekends. The water cannons and pool spray ground do not work. bring sandals if you're going to the pool because the area around the pool...
We had really lovely vacation at Aquatika! The apartment is really on the best spot right next to the ocean. Pools and the beach made the relaxation so easy! The area is well maintained and really secure. Kids loved the play areas. There were not so many people there and sometimes it was us at the pool. The waterslide is open Sat and Sun. You need a rental car as there are no grocery stores nearby. Manuel was a great host and answered quickly to our questions. Highly recommended!
We stayed her with a family of 5 with young children. The resort was great. Pretty quiet and very spacious set up but enough other kids to play with. Pool was lots of fun. Ocean bit too rough for our kids but beach was very pretty. Th apartment is very comfortable and the kids really enjoyed playing with all the pool toys and other toys. Kitchen well equipped.
Our first trip to Puerto Rico. Aquatika was a great place to stay at! We had a rental car so it was easy to make day trips. We visited a coffee plantation, the El Yungue rainforest, Luquillo beach, San Juan, El Coayuco La Cueva Del Indio and other interesting places. Manuel's apartment really has the best location at the Aquatika complex: right next to the best pools and really close to the beach gate. There are no services at Aquatika, but still lots to do. Manuel had minigolf clubs and balls to play basketball and volleyball. Unfortunately the gym was closed when we stayed at Aquatika. It's handy, that you can wash clothes if you stay there for a longer time, but the dishwasher couldn't be used because there wasn't enough water pressure. Manuel's kitchen has basic items for those who want to cook. We couldn't find a peeler or a cutting board, though. There are lots of kids toys, which actually pretty much fill the closets. We didn't realize we should have brought an own hairdryer. A big plus to a very good and fast Wi-Fi connection!!! We also found the electronic door lock very comfortable. We had a really great vacation. Thank you, Manuel, for renting you condo.
Aquatika was a decent place. Great location and easy access to El Yunque (30 min drive) and Fajardo (30 min for Bioluminescent bay) and 35 min to San Juan airport. The place itself had two basic pools, a hot tub and kiddie pool area. It's easy access into the house - no keys (!) just a touchpad, which made it really easy for everyone to get in and out of the house. We had 8 people and it was really reaching the maximum capacity for the house. Two of the rooms have bunk beds and the master bed is a queen size and the couch sleeps 2 as well. The house had very simple pots/pans and few appliances, which seemed to cover the basic needs. It was right on the beach which was really great - but you needed a key to get onto the beach...and then again to get out of the beach which can feel a little limiting sometimes.
