À propos de ce logement
This room is located upstairs in the middle of a private, older home - dating back to 1925. We live in one of the upstairs rooms, and we rent the two others. Guests in these two other rooms share a bathroom. The room contains a full-sized bed, a desk, a chair and a chest of drawers. There is also a large closet, and an iron is available. We welcome business people, tourists and other travelers.
The atmosphere of the space is that of a home, and, although there may be several guests visiting at a time, there is only one main entrance. Let us know if you would like to make use of the kitchen, and we can work something out.

The house is in a tree-shaded and quiet urban neighborhood known as Southside, and it is located on Red Mountain, not far from major roads, shopping, restaurants, etc. The houses in the area, including ours, were built in the 1920's. It is about 10 minutes from Dreamland Barbecue and 20 minutes from Five Points South, depending on how fast you walk. We are downhill about a block from the Vulcan Trail, which is a mile-long walking/running trail that gives you a view of the whole city. It is completely level, unlike the street the house is on which is uphill from the University - so if you are heading for UAB, you walk down in the morning and up at night.
Parking should not be a problem. It is usually available on the street and is always free and legal in both directions. Keep in mind that we live on a hill in case you drive a stick-shift. Buses stop every hour about two blocks from our house, but you have to walk about 20 minutes to get more frequent buses, and in general, you might want to avoid relying heavily on public transportation because buses are infrequent and waiting times long - at least by comparison with cities like Atlanta and New York and Boston.
We live here, and we also rent out a total of three rooms in the house on a short-term basis to travelers, visitors to the area and people with business at UAB, the hospital or within the city of Birmingham, since we are quite close to UAB and downtown - and only a couple of miles from an I-65 exit. We have two Jack Russell terriers who tend to greet guests with terrible barking, but they change their tune and become friendly very quickly.
We welcome travelers of all kinds, including children and families. We have a couple of lively dogs, and we generally discourage pets for that reason, although it's open to negotiation. As for check-in and check-out, we really appreciate any information about when you expect to be arriving and when you expect to check out. We assume that guests will arrive sometime between 5 and 8 and leave by 11 in the morning, but we are flexible and can arrange for you to pick up a key. No smoking indoors, please, but we do have a front porch for smokers. The kitchen can be used for simple meal preparation, if necessary, between about 7 and 9 (breakfast) and 5 to 8 (evening) - no microwave is available, however. In general, the atmosphere of the house is quiet between 11 at night and 6 in the morning. Let us know if you have questions!
