Welcome to this peaceful guest house in the country just two hours from NYC or Boston. Cook in, dine out, hike, go to the beaches, watch the sunset on the CT River, sit by the fire pit in the alpaca field or the adirondack chairs in the orchard, go for a bike ride through the hills of Lyme and across the river to Chester via the ferry... These are some of my favorite things to do here at the farm. Follow us at flatrockfarmct . c o m!

Le logement
Set on an historic property, this guest house has been renovated and furnished for the sophisticated visitor. The house has rustic charm in its structure that is balanced by the worldly elegance of its furnishings. It is set off from the main house for partial privacy - we do share a driveway, but I am respectful of your privacy.

The fully furnished top of the line gourmet kitchen has been recently built and offers custom cabinetry, Miele and Sub Zero appliances as well as most kitchen tools imaginable. There is an expansive food pantry replete with most any staple you may need to enjoy cooking during your stay. I just ask that if you use something other than flour/sugar/spices, that you replace it.

The dining area seats up to six with the built in table extender (table linens are in the chest next to the door along with serving pieces).

Outdoors there is Frontgate cushioned seating, a propane grill, and a propane heater for cooler nights. I have a charcoal grill and a smoker I'd be happy to share too if you are so inclined...

The living room is perfect for entertaining a large group or family with multiple seating options, a wood burning stove and TV equipped with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and a DVD player. The furnishings are largely a combination of Grange Furniture (available through decorators only) and internationally sourced art and antiques from the owner's own collection.

The lower bedroom offers two twin beds and a full bath with either Ralph Lauren or Nancy Koltes linens. There are extra pillows/linens in the armoire.

The second level of this house is an extraordinary master suite with palatial arched windows (from Choate Rosemary Hall) and views of an open field and barn. This room boasts a king sized bed dressed in Ralph Lauren Suite linens, a sitting area, a chaise lounge by the television which also offers Netflix and Prime. There is a closet area with a rolling rack in addition to a dresser for clothing storage. A small but full bath completes the upstairs bedroom. The beds sleep four and I have additional sleeping options (featherbed covered twin cots and/or inflatable Queen mattress) for additional guests but four is the optimal number of adult visitors.

We have additional sleeping options - two twin cots with feather beds as well as a queen sized raised inflatable bed (the Frontgate version of an air mattress).

Lyme is an upscale country destination with gourmet restaurants, farmers markets, endless hiking trails, numerous kayaking locations as well as world class beaches, all just minutes away. Lyme is two hours from NYC or Boston on the CT Shoreline. I am happy to help with any plans you would like to make and are happy to offer eggs for breakfast, fresh from our own chickens. We have bicycles (nothing fancy but they have wheels), picnic baskets, blankets, coolers and other accessories available for a beach picnic or a night of outdoor music at one of many local venues. We are pet friendly too! More information is available on our website FlatRockFarmCTor for immediate responses, please call/text 212/987/0933.

I look forward to welcoming you to the farm!

The guest house is entirely open for guest use. I have set up a fire pit in the alpaca field and am happy to set that up for you. The barns may be messy so I prefer no guests visit the animal enclosures but feel free to roam the property!

Autres remarques
The house was an old barn. It is rustic. This is a farm.

The furnishings are high end, eclectic and international. This would not, however, be a good choice for those with a minimalist aesthetic or need for a sterile environment. just saying.

If there is anything less than a 5-star rating, please let me know so I can fix it for you and/or for future guests!

We are a rural residential neighborhood with the best coffee shop in New England a short walk down the road. This is a popular walking route - the triangle formed by the two roads on either side of the property and the connecting road is a 1.4 mile walk and you will likely see walkers out and about, especially on weekends, undoubtedly heading to the coffee shop.

After nearly 18 years in NYC, most of which time was spent as an international investment banker, I am now a mom living in the country on an antique farmstead that we purchased in 2011. The main house dates back to 1697 and is a small cape with much of the original details still intact; some day it will become a restoration project for me but for now I am busy with the gardens, barns, animals, guest house... So far, we have gutted the guest house kitchens (yes, two) and rebuilt the main kitchen, done some cosmetic work and are in the process of relocating doors and windows (a conceptual state at the moment as I am always planning my next project! We have also taken on the grounds as a never ending project - clearing an acre of overgrown vines (Tarzan could have swung on them!), prickle bushes and poison sumac - those were fun summers :) Now we are leveling fields for the alpaca, building another barn, putting up fencing, building rock walls, planting hundreds of plants to create new garden beds (still working on that one :(, restoring a terraced garden for vegetables, and planting a fruit tree orchard. I do like to stay busy! We have close to 4 acres that we are working on to create a farm. We currently have six suri alpaca and approximately 40 chickens of differing breeds; needless to say, eggs are plentiful (in the summer) and I am happy to share! We also have two very friendly dogs - a noisy barking yellow lab named Dillon and a ball/stick/anything that might move obsessed Belgian Shepherd named Arthur, who will likely greet you before I even realized you have arrived. We welcome your dogs, provided everyone plays nicely and doesn't make an indoor mess or chase chickens! I bought this property so I could create a healthy farm environment for my family and support my efforts by renting the guest house. I greatly enjoy meeting the many guests we have had and look forward to welcoming more to our home. There is much to do in and around Lyme: summer beaches are everywhere, fall leaf watching is beautiful, nearby marinas, excellent restaurants, well-run museums and art galleries, Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos, hiking trails and boat launches (aka dog beaches!), just to name a few. I am happy to help plan your visit if you tell me what you enjoy. If you want to picnic, we have baskets, blankets, and dishes/glasses available for your use during your visit. Thanks for considering a stay with us in Lyme!

Pendant votre séjour
I am always available to help with adventures, dining, or anything else you may need during your stay. Call or text me at any time and I will get back to you the next time I find my phone. You can drop in to my house at any time as well!

You let me know how much you want to see me. I am here to help but want to give you privacy at the same time. If you want me to check in with you, I will. If you prefer to be left completely alone, I am fine with that too. The only thing I need to do is check on animals and that involves walking toward the Guest House to get to the barns and using the hose in the back yard to fill the waterers. I do not to do this when guests are enjoying the outdoor deck but please just let me know if you prefer more privacy!
