My first trip to Iceland. My first time using airbnb. Both were absolutely wonderful experiences. So, I will not talk about Iceland, as if your are looking at this post, you are possibly planning to visit. In short, it is a unique, profoundly beautiful country. I am already planning my next trip, and shouldn't be telling the world this, but it seems as if the secret is already out. Instead, we will talk about how my time at Helga's summer home added so much more to my trip. Once I made my reservation, Helga thanked me for choosing her home, and right before the trip, she sent some hints about what to do upon my arrival. My flight arrived at 5 am, so we were somewhat tired. We proceeded toward the area of the house and did some sightseeing and hiking to kill some time, and they were going to be able to get us into the house a little early. Unfortunately, I did not meet Helga and her husband as they were on a ski holiday, but her brother was at the house when we arrived. There was a beer waiting, and a warm welcome, and the house was ours. The house is about 30 minutes out of Reyjavik, and "in the country". Perfect! It is across the street from a large lake that is surrounded by mountains. The setting could not have been more ideal and serene. With our days being out in the country seeing the sights, it was so nice to come home to a quiet, warm, cozy home, and not be distracted as if we would have been renting in a city. Our time there went wonderfully well. We cooked breakfast daily, and it was nice to have some jams in the refrigerator, spices for cooking, and basic supplies. Helga, even while being away on vacation, would message me periodically to make sure all was OK. At times, I had questions for her, and she was quick to respond back. On my only clear night, she sent me a message to inform me that the Aurora Borealis was occurring and she wanting to make sure I was aware. How considerate! The area around the house is quiet. There is no traffic on the road, though we were staying in late March 2017. Groceries and gas and other services were in town about 20 minutes away. The house is small, but cozy and quaint, and very clean and not cluttered. I could easily live there. Any negatives? Mainly the hot water. A small hot water tank meant that two people taking showers have to be considerate of their hot water use. The shower is also small, but Helga told me that this is all changing, as the house is going to be off market briefly as a new bathroom is being built and geothermal hot water supply is about to be connected. Also, the TV doesn't get many channels, but I wasn't there to watch TV...

Helga's home was beautiful and perfectly located, in my opinion. The communication on the front end felt very easy and added great peace of mind going into the trip. The hospitality was top notch and she gave lots of suggestions to help make the trip the best one yet.

Don't even hesitate on this listing - just stay here. Not only is the house impeccable and pristine, the location could not be more immersed in scenic beauty. Helga was a dream to work with - not only responsive and helpful along the way, but clearly cared about the quality of our Iceland experience. The location is close enough to Reykjavik to go into the city when you please, but also remote enough to really encourage you to explore all that Iceland has to offer. I could not be more happy with my experience staying here.

Helga's home was incredibly cozy and had everything we could possibly need. She was helpful from the very beginning in both suggestions and accommodations, as well as treating us to some Icelandic beer as we arrived! The home is not too far from most major attractions in the area, while still being just far enough out of the way that you feel secluded.

This cosy house is perfect for relaxing and exploring the fascinating nature of this beautiful country. If you're lucky you can watch the northern lights from the living room. Helga and Hannes are lovely hosts and made us feeling very welcome and comfortable.

When we pulled up to the summerhouse I instantly knew the reviews were all accurate and I was thrilled. Helga was there to welcome us and showed around the house, which was toasty warm in contrast to the wet and windy weather outside! Helga was incredibly welcoming and made us feel at home instantly with some local beers to try. The house was immaculately clean and had everything we needed for self catering. The location was beautiful and I loved relaxing on the sofa, looking at the lake after a long day on the road. We even saw a faint glimpse of the northern lights by the lake. We would definitely visit again and have already recommended to friends and family. Thank you Helga and family!
