We live in a country house in our own private woodland, a quiet location in the heart of the Lake District National Park just 1.5 Km from the centres of twin villages Windermere and Bowness. Great views from the garden, lovely walks from the door.
Our Guest Room reflects the Arts and Crafts style of the house, with oak floors and sheepskin rugs, yet has under-floor heating and a thoroughly modern shower-room. Windows look out onto part of our large garden and onto the fellside, usually grazed by sheep or cattle. Beyond, you can glimpse the famous Langdale Pikes.
Accès des voyageurs
You'll have the use of a private en-suite bedroom, fitted with a comfortable standard-size double-bed. Direct access is via a separate entrance. Private parking just 10 metres from the room. We usually serve breakfast at the oak dining table in the library. Free WiFi. Guests are welcome to explore our extensive grounds, half of which is natural mixed woodland with pathways and secluded clearings.
Échanges avec les voyageurs
We are widely travelled and enjoy exchanging travellers' tales. We are walkers (Everest Base Camp, Tour of Mont Blanc, etc.) and skiers. Adrian is a local guide and a qualified Mountain Leader, so we are well-equipped to suggest walks or drives in the Lake District. We have a good selection of maps and guide-books and can also recommend our favourite Lakeland pubs and restaurants.
Windermere and Bowness villages offer a wide choice of pubs, cafes and restaurants, the nearest pub being the excellent Brookside, just 1 Km away. Although located in north-west England, Windermere is exactly half-way (by road) from both Land's End and John O'Groats, each about 700 Km.
Windermere is served by direct trains from Manchester Airport (2 hours) and is just 20 minutes drive from M6 Junction 36. The cities of Liverpool and Manchester are less than 2 hours drive, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Cairnryan (for ferries to Northern Ireland) are about 3 hours. Windermere is a transport hub, providing bus links throughout the Lake District National Park and beyond and there are ferry services up and down the lake. GPS users should input our PostCode only - LA23 2NQ, (not Lickbarrow Road) - most systems will direct you to our gateway. Please note that our minimum stay is usually two nights, as it just isn't possible to do justice to this beautiful area in a shorter stay. Although we are relatively new to Air B&B, we have been providing accommodation for many years - please see our Trip Advisor reviews.
We simply ask that guests respect the fact that Lickbarrow Lodge is our family home, not an hotel nor a guest-house. We have only one Bed and Breakfast room and we don't have staff other than ourselves so we cannot always be available after mid-morning. Your room is supplied with an electric kettle, tea and coffee but please note that, as in most countries, Bed and Breakfast rooms do not provide any facilities for preparing your own meals. For obvious reasons, take-away meals may not be consumed in your room, though we can often make our dining-room available to you. Of course, we are a non-smoking household. Tariff varies according to season - please see calendar. Price is for the room (not per person!). Minimum stay is normally 2 nights, though sometimes 3 nights.
Elizabeth and Adrian are a well-travelled married couple who enjoy living in this beautiful place but appreciate that these are many more places around the world still to explore!
