This is a pretty typical cute Newtown sharehouse. It's a nice, friendly, neat, cosy abode that you can call home while you're in Sydney. I hope it will have everything you need. The price is as low as we can make it, considering Sydney rent.

Included in your stay: a free tasting of Vegemite on toast for those brave souls who didn't grow up eating it for breakfast.

You will have access to the living room, the kitchen, the bathroom (including a shower and a lovely bathtub), toilet, laundry, the outdoor courtyard and of course your bedroom, with a window onto the courtyard and bird calls of a morning.

I will be more than happy to help you with any questions you have about Sydney or about the house during your stay. If there's anything you need or don't understand, please let me know so that we can find a solution. I work full-time doing shift work so am often away for large chunks of the day or busy preparing for work, but always contactable by phone, text or email. If you are interested, I can give you a list of my favourite local hangouts to check out, like the cafes, restaurants, beaches, museums, walks and the huge climbing gym. I know how to save money and still have fun. I also understand that sometimes all you want is to relax and have some time to yourself so I will follow your lead if you decide on minimal interaction. I want your stay in Sydney to be as enjoyable as possible!

I love Newtown for its pastries, people-watching, Dendy arthouse cinema, welcoming LGBTQIA scene, small pubs, bookshops, second-hand clothing shops, great coffee, convenience for getting in and around the city and high proportion of dog- and cat-people, among other things.

It is a safe area for solo travellers. A little caution is advised if you're out and about alone way after midnight on a weekend, as in anywhere in the world. But don't let that stop you from having fun. Sometimes I leave the house at 5am to go to work and have always felt relatively safe in this area. There is a police station located nearby should anything go (website hidden) Peters train station is 8 minutes' walk away. It takes you directly into the city in 15 minutes.
Newtown train station is 10 minutes' walk away. It also takes you directly into the city in 15 minutes, but is on a different line.
There is a bus stop for the 370 bus to Coogee beach 5 minutes' walk away.
There is a bus stop for the 422 bus into the city 5 minutes' walk away.

If you are staying more than a couple of days I would strongly recommend getting yourself an Opal card so you can tap on/tap off all of our trains, buses, ferries and light rail. It's like London's Oyster, Hong Kong's Octopus and Melbourne's Myki card. You can buy one from newsagents for $20, giving you $20 credit which you can top up whenever it runs out. If you have an Opal card, you pay only $2.50 to travel all day on a Sunday. There is a daily limit of $15 for other days and $60 for a Monday-Sunday period.

For more transport info you can have a look at the 131500 website which will tell you schedules and pricing. A good free transport app for your phone is TripView Lite (or (website hidden) Maps).

The house is not far from Sydney's airport. The easiest way to get to and from the airport is by taxi which will cost around $25 and take about half an hour or less depending on traffic. The next best way is by train. From the airport you take the train to Redfern station and change there for either Newtown station (Inner West line) or St Peters station (Campbelltown). But that is quite an expensive trip ($18) because a private company owns the airport train station.

If you are arriving by car, you will find that there is free unlimited parking on Little Commodore Street near the house.

If you are arriving by bicycle, congratulations! You can lock up your bike in the courtyard which is accessible via a locked gate.

The cat who lives in the house, Louie, is very big, very cuddly and very fluffy. He likes to play, will occasionally try to hunt you but is mostly a big sook. Some of his hair will probably stick to your clothing. I have pet-hair rollers you can use to remove the hair when you want to be presentable.

Newtown lies under Sydney's flight path so gets a bit of noise from planes before 11pm and after 6am. It's not deafening, but certainly part of the inner west experience. There is also some hammering noise from a construction site a block away. Personally I don't notice the plane noise at all any more but it could be annoying for travellers new to the area. I have earplugs available for light sleepers.

Règlement intérieur

There are just a few ground rules to note in the house:
- There is no smoking indoors. Smoking in the courtyard is ok.
- I decide when to let the cat out but he mostly stays indoors so try not to let him out.
- Remember to turn lights off when you're no longer in the room.
- Please wash up your plates and utensils after using the kitchen.
- Be respectful of the house and its objects, because this is our home. If you should accidentally break something, please tell me, so that I know.
- Have a wonderful stay.

It was a cosy stay at Brittany's place . Brittany is very friendly , she shared with me some saving tips, interesting places to hang around. She is very considerate too by placing a heater in the room .

Brittany was an awesome host! She had loads of tips and tricks for getting around Sydney. Furthermore she was really friendly and helpful. The location was great as well. The place not only looked really good(it had a lovely feel to it), it was also very easy to get everywhere. All in all, the host, the cat louie and the place really made my trip! I would give 6/5 stars, but i can only give 5/5, so i'll go for that.

I have no words to describe how great it was to stay at Brittany´s house. I felt home. She gave me the best tips to discover more about the city and she even made me a B-day cake!. The house was great and her cat Loui was the sweetest pet I´ve ever met. If I would have to rate this experience it will definitely be a 10 out of 10. Brittany is a really amazing girl and I hope we can keep in touch in the future.

My name is Brittany, I am based in Sydney and I like to travel whenever I can. I have a passion for introducing travellers to my city.

Some of my most memorable and heartwarming experiences in foreign countries have been while staying in the homes of welcoming strangers.

As a traveller, I try to be a respectful and curious guest. As a host, I hope to provide the kind of environment that is comfortable and simple for people from all walks of life.

Ideally, travelling enriches us with new experiences and connections that help us grow. An important part of that process is rest after a long day of explorations, so I am happy to provide peaceful space for exhausted travellers to relax.
