The villagio complex was exactly as presented on the promotion site. It was very Italian in its atmosphere and residents. The pool is always well utilized and is a good place to meet other guests. The unit was quite adequate, the bed comfortable, and the air conditioning worked very well. The unit is very sparsely equipped for cooking or entertaining. Eduardo was very helpful and did everything he could to made our stay enjoyable. We stayed in village number 5 which does not have a walkway connecting it to the other villages. Contrary to the promotion, villagio 5 does not currently have a restaurant or bar on site. The only restaurant in the other villages is a 15 minute walk on a mostly dirt road. After a few days we realized that a car is almost a necessity in this area. There are lots of local restaurants within an easy walk if you are prepared to walk on the road which does not have either sidewalks or shoulders. Okay in the daytime but quite dangerous especially at night. If you are prepared to walk, make sure you have a flashlight especially at night. It's really to bad you cannot walk through the other villages as there is a lovely ice cream place, pizza takeout and Italian restaurant in the other villages. Not a nice walk on the dirt road currently.
We had such a wonderful stay at the Villaggio, that after our first week we decided to extend our stay for a second week! The manager Eduardo was very helpful and made us feel very welcome, giving us good information about the area. The staff was also very friendly and helpful, giving us rides around the area on days when we didn't have a car. The villas we stayed in were clean and comfortable, with good AC, which was nice on those hot sunny days. The property was close to the beach, with several good restaurants and grocery stores only a short walk away. The only thing that we felt was an issue was the wireless internet on the property, which was frequently down for a good portion of the day. But other than that, we were very pleased with our experience and will very likely stay there again!
We stayed here for 30 days and Potrero is an up and coming area that is being developed by these owners and some hotels are going up in the area. The beaches in the area are beautiful. Our building had 3 stories but most units are 1 story duplexes. Over all we were very pleased with our stay. The walls are thick and quiet. Edwardo was the host and when at first we had a unresolved problem with the air conditioner he offered and moved us to a different room where all was perfect. He really tried hard to make sure we were happy. His English was perfect also which helped. Others have noted it attracts Italian guests/owners and one review complained of them being loud. Well, yes the volume of talk was loud early in the morning and up to like 9 at night. BUT it was just talking and you could not hear them while inside, (windows were closed). No partying or stupidity. The pool was very nice. The chairs were all broken when we got their but were replaced with new shortly after. The beach could be heard sometimes above the talking and was blackish sand so we did not use that beach except to watch the sunset. The other beaches were just a short drive away. A lot of good soda's and restaurants around. Bird life was excellent. You could hear howlers every day but we never saw them here. This place gives a good bang for your monthly rate buck. It was 95+ every day we were there so we used the two AC units daily. No rain was here in the dry season so the trees outside the heavily watered complex were mostly without leaves, but withing the complex it was lush and beautiful. It was an advantage to have a car to easily see all the area and the closer National parks were 1 to 1.5 hours away. The place was as described with of course optimal camera shots. Our stay included Easter and this country is swamped with tourists and locals at the beaches that week. I would recommend to anyone wanting to visit the Potrero, Flamingo, Conchol area.
