À propos de ce logement
“Sassocchio” It’s an ancient house close to Lizzano in Belvedere (Bologna), a little village on the Appennini Mountains. The house is made on two upper floors and a basement. It has been named as the place where it had built up, name that refers to a rough and stony ground: Sassocchio.
At the beginning of the 20th century our cousins, old owners of the house, moved to U.S.A. (Vineland – New Jersey) and now we manage the house and the land around it. The house is located just three hundred meters from the center of Lizzano in Belvedere, but we consider it as a country house because it stands on a ridge surrounded by the nature; a quiet, nice and panoramic place from where you can admire the view of the mountains and the Upper Valley of Silla river.

Lizzano in Belvedere Area
Lizzano in Belvedere is the chief town of the Belvedere area. Our history is very old and dates back to Charlemagne time as evidenced by a document bearing his signature.
The Belvedere is a mountain full of historical importance. On its top stood a castle dominated by Bologna, it was needed to deal with the city of Florence.
In Lizzano in Belvedere you will find one of the oldest buildings of the whole province, this is the “Delubro”, a Baptistery dating 800 A.C.
Many years before (216 B.C.), in our forest called "Silva Litana", the populations of these mountains massacred two Roman legions (25,000 men) leaded by the Consul Lucius Postumius Albino.
The Belvedere is a so strategic place that the German army, during the Second World War, elected it as the strong point of the Green Line II, also known as the Gothic Line.
Plenty of allied armies have been fighting over this battlefront: U.S., English, Brazilian, all together with our patriotic fighters organized in official partisan troops. The 10th Mountain Division (U.S.) operated accomplishing an hard and difficult task: the Riva chain mountain conquest.
Our regional economy has always been simple and frugal. From ancient times until nineteen fifties our population was very poor and the first source of livelihood was agriculture, especially producing chestnut flour. Every family had its own chestnut trees to assure its own surviving.
The upper part of the territory, known as the "Alpe", was not used. This is the place where is located the Corno alle Scale mountain and where now the ski resort opens during winter. In this mountain has been coached skiing the world champion Alberto Tomba.
What qualifies our area is the "Corno alle Scale” Natural Park; an abundance of paths made by the Italian Alpine Club allow you to visit places of great beauty with medium and high difficulties.
In our park live eagles, deer, roe deer, wild sheep, wild boars, badgers, porcupines and many others, one of the most important among them is the Apennines Wolf.
Organized excursions will give you the chance to spot these animals and to see also the flora, that has a wide variety of wonderful flowers including the “tulipanus australis” as last offshoot of Southern Europe.
