Description

Le logement

20 minutes from Hilo airport, colleges, shopping, hotels and the beach. Beautiful tropical rain forest hideaway.

20 miles to the Volcano National Park. Two hours to Kona beaches and Kona airport.

Spacious open family room. This unit is on the ground floor.

The price includes Hawaii 15% room tax for short term rentals.

Lush tropical flowers, plants, shrubs and trees. Are you ready for this paradise!

We are situated in a tropical rain forest and on several acres. Do take a walk around the property and pick fruit for your own consumption from the orchard in front and in back of the property. Laugh at the chickens, some like to be held!

We are available for answering all questions and try to be as helpful as possible. Ancient words of wisdom: Ask and you shell receive; Seek and you shall find; and Knock and the door will be open to you.

Our neighborhood is rural. You will see walker, horseback riders, and bikers on the road so do be careful. The wildlife consists primarily of birds, mongoose, feral cats and pigs that always avoid humans. There are small domestic dogs and chickens for curiosity fun. Enjoy the wild flowers!

The local bus stop is a 15 minute walk to the highway. Bus service exists but is infrequent.

The water we have is rainwater from a water catchment system. It is great to shower and clean with. You will find that when you wash your hair, use very little shampoo or you will be washing it out of your hair for a long time!

Also the water from the plumbing is not considered safe to drink. Bottled water for drinking is a necessity. A few bottles will be furnished on your arrival.

There is a washer for your convenience, but no dryer. There are clotheslines for drying outside.

There is a shelf or two of DVDs for your watching pleasure.

The solar hot water can be supplemented by turning the "Little Gray Box" on activating the electric water heater.

If you have any questions, just ask.

South is the Volcano National Park -- two days are needed to see the highlights and enjoy. Mother Earth giving birth since 1983 -- you decide if it is creation or devastation.

East is Pahoa town -- the end of the recent lava flow -- and Kalapana to see a touch of old Hawaii and the Thursday night market. This can be a full day or two of exploration. It is back to the '50s and contemporary Hawaiian lifestyle immersion in this corner of paradise.

North is Imiloa -- astronomy explained to the community--, waterfalls, and the top of Mauna Kea and Onizuka's Visitor Center. This is a day for the star activities that with no doubt is the best place on the planet to observe, discover and learn. Just add another day for waterfalls and botanical gardens.

There is so much to see. Please take the time, immerse yourself, learn and enjoy! Then there is the ocean 2400 miles to the West Coast going east!!

Robert and Barbara were great hosts while my partner and I enjoyed our time in Hawai'i. They were super flexible when our plans changed last minute and offered some great tips on things to do in the area. The space itself is clean, has all of the amenities you need, and in a great location between the Volcano National Park and Hilo. The only thing I would suggest is when you first check-in to arrive when there's still light out - this place can be a challenge to find since it gets pretty dark out there!

Was a nice place to base ourselves for a few days while we explored the east coast. Only tip to other travelers would be to make sure you have gps as the driveway is hard to spot at night.

Robert is a great host; very responsive communication and helpful tips/hints to find the place and travelling around. His place is located in a peaceful location; we had the ground floor unit, which is clean and offers all basic amenities for a pleasant stay. The description is accurate and precise. You will need a car for convenience and make arrangements to have your own mobile phone to access the internet if you need it. Some people are complaining about the nightly frog concert on Big Island - I personally like it and definitely prefer it to the really annoying noise disturbance we've encountered in hotels and resorts sometimes. I would stay there again and can recommend it to all looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle of normal tourist accommodations. Thank you Robert, all the best.

We really enjoyed staying at the cottage. We had a couple little friends (lizard and gecko) visit us. The orchard was lovely to explore and our whole stay had a super peaceful air. Would love to come back and stay again!

We are retired and run a few rentals on the Big Island in the cool, lush, rain forest.

Our rentals are clean, fresh, and open air nestled in the rain forest with lush tropical vegetation, flowers and birds.

Our hobbies are gardening, ceramics and airplanes -- Bob Dreams, Builds, and Flys planes. We both love to travel.

Most importantly, drive time is twenty minutes to the ocean, Volcano National Park, Hilo airport and the University. It is a 45 minute drive or longer to the top of Mauna Kea to see the stars like you have never seen them before. It is a two hour drive to the Kona airport and Kona beaches.

Presently, our rentals are full but camping is a possibility.

Just let us know what your needs are!
