AREA DESCRIPTION / ACTIVITIES /EVENTS

Nestled in the heart of Paradise Lakes your senses awaken to the clean mountain air filled with the scent of seasonal wildflowers, cedar, fir, spruce & other grand conifers. We are ideally located as a base camp for exploring the entire region!

Driving along the rambling Mount Baker and Kendall Highways, you feel as if you have just entered your own private park with numerous creeks and moss blanketed trees. We are conveniently located just off the spectacular Mount Baker Scenic Byway in a beautifully wooded area about 15 minutes from the Sumas, Washington border crossing into Abbottsford, B.C. Our winding, ambling, scenic drives are perfect for auto, motorcycle and bike touring.

We are surrounded by pristine wildlife / Bald Eagle habitat, scenic rivers, streams, lakes and water falls that provide splendid photography opportunities. Indulge in year-round four-season activities such as birding, mushrooming, wild-crafting, hiking, trekking, climbing, caving, mountain and road-tour biking, kayaking, canoeing, boating, sail boarding, river rafting [Area rafting operators/tours available], fishing, picnicking, and more.

The Mount Baker region also features off-road areas, snow parks [Area snowmobile rentals available], recreation areas, equestrian trails, scenic lookouts so much more to satisfy the explorer and adventure-minded.

Mount Baker Ski Area [For many, considered the birthplace of snowboarding] is an enchanting 21.9 mile drive, mostly through Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. There, and you will enjoy four-season activities - world-class skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and other winter sports, as well as the world-renowned Wilderness backcountry.

You certainly won't want to miss the Bald Eagles! In addition to our local populations, if you visit during the winter, the transient birds coming down from the Fraser Valley in Canada greatly increases the numbers of these majestic birds.

The Deming Homestead Eagle Park is 15-minutes away. North Cascades Highway, the Skagit River Bald Eagle wintering grounds and Skagit River Interpretive Center are just a short, scenic drive south. Bring your picnic basket and binoculars for an incredible experience! A great article by Janice Lovelace on viewing the eagles can be found at the following link.

Kevin and Maggie!! Location, Location, Location The house is a short scenic drive to Bellingham, Lynden, Birch Bay, and Blaine. Berry picking around every corner. The House!! The house was decorated beautifully. Warm and inviting. The upper floor was ours. We used the sweet little table in the sitting room to eat our You breakfast every morning. The Desert Rose china provided made it feel even more special. The bathroom was large and set up nicely. The towels and wash clothes provided were very thick and soft. NOW THE BEDROOM. The bed frame was huge. It was really beautiful. The linens were lovely. The decorations were reminisce of their Scottish heritage. Maggie is descended from royalty. Ask her it's fascinating. Kevin and Maggie!! They were wonderful hosts. They were quiet. They let us be if we wanted or chatted and hung out with us if we wanted that. We will DEFINITELY stay with them again. Kevin and Maggie !!!!!

We stayed here to be closer to Mt Baker ski area. Highly recommend watching Brave Heart after skiing in the Scottish-decorated bedroom with a bed fit for an English king and queen. We appreciated the tea, coffee, and wine bottle opener, a special request!

Ken and Maggie were extremely gracious hosts who went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. There were lots of lovely personal touches. The suite was very well equipped and very confortable.

Kevin and Maggie were friendly, yet provided us with privacy we enjoyed. They were most helpful with requests such as extra water because we were hiking. Having two rooms was a big plus - one for sleeping and one for eating breakfast and relaxing in the evening.

Hi, Sue, Thank you for the nice public review. We appreciate it. Our guest feedback is important so I also wanted to address your other comments. We were a bit confused about the "spoons would be nice" comment, as those were provided. There were spoons with the dirty dishes we cleaned as well as two more unused spoons in the retreat room provisions. We certainly would have been happy to meet additional needs as required. The vase on top of the drawer unit in the bathroom is simply part of the decor intended to provide our guests with some "ambience." That of course could have been moved to provide additional space for your use if we had known you desired it. Our apologies about missing the shower drain. We do our best to make sure everything is pristine for our guests, and even re-sanitize all surfaces, switches, handles and doorknobs prior to our guest's arrival. We realize being in an area with neighbors does not provide the same level of solitude that being in a location on acreage does. However, such accommodations in this area routinely run 2-5 times the nightly rate that we charge. if we were in a secluded location on acreage our rates would reflect that exclusivity. Likewise, accommodations in closer proximity to the mountain are either cabins, cottages, condos or full-service B&Bs, and as such also charge considerably higher rates. Most of those are only roughly ten miles closer at best as there are no accommodations beyond the national forest boundary at the edge of Glacier. We provide info on our listings as to our location and distance from the top of the mountain, as well as a map on our website - and listing sites that allow it, so potential guests have that information to make an informed decision as to whether Suite Paradise is a good fit for them. On a side note, we noticed the down comforter was taken out of the duvet cover. Ideally, we would have preferred to leave it on the comforter to protect it and keep it clean and sanitary. Our guest's comfort is our primary goal, so if it was too warm for you we could have provided other blankets that would have been more comfortable for you. Thank you again for you input. Ultimately, our goal is to provide a comfortable and enjoyable stay at the best value possible. Good communication with our guests helps us to meet that goal. Many blessings! Maggie & Kevin
