Description

Enjoy a peaceful Cabin In The Woods experience on the South Fork of the Caddo River. This 38 acre property is yours to explore. Property extends on both sides of the river with 1200' of river frontage. Enjoy swimming, kayaking, fishing, & comfort.

Your 1200 sq-ft, 1.5 story cabin sits high above the S. Fork Caddo River. The secluded "cabin in the woods" is surrounded by pine and hardwood, with beautiful views of the river, trees, and surrounding mountains. An amazing deck sits amongst the trees and leads all the way down to the river's edge (116 steps). At the river, the property extends to both sides of the water up and down stream. The wrap around deck at the cabin has outdoor seating, a picnic table, grill (propane tank included), and views at every level. Inside, a comfortable living area flows into a fully equipped kitchen, down the hall to a private bedroom, and upstairs to a large loft bedroom. The single bathroom is simple with a full sized tub and shower. The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed, twin bed, and extra twin mattress. Upstairs, the loft has a king bed, full bed, twin bed, and extra twin mattress.

3-day minimum stay is required for most weekends. For holidays, a 4 night stay may be required. Thank you for understanding.

Drinking water is provided since the well water has a sulfur smell.

The property around the cabin is yours to explore on both sides of the river. You are unlikely to see another human during your stay unless you venture downstream to the bridge a quarter mile away.

Note: Last mile to cabin is a dirt road. Last 1/2 mile has some small ruts and a steep hill just before arriving at the cabin. Small cars may be ok in dry weather, but a small SUV or better is recommended during rainy or icy weather.

We are available by phone anytime for any of your needs. Our caretaker lives 1/2 mile away and is the nearest neighbor. When you arrive, the lights will be on, a key available and everything ready for your stay. However, we will leave you completely alone unless you have a specific need. You will feel like you own the entire mountaintop!

Our remote location is appreciated by most guests. The closest neighbor (our caretaker) is 1/2 mile away. A few other scattered neighbors live somewhere through the hills, but you are very unlikely to see any of them. A county road bridge borders the east end of the property about 1/4 mile away, and local families will occasionally use the gravel bars below the bridge as their swimming hole. They stay far away from the cabin area (and may not even know it is there!).

A dirt racetrack has opened one mile away. They race on Saturday nights from 8pm until around 11pm. Trees and hills will muffle the sound, but the engines are easily heard echoing through the valley. (Thunder Mountain Super Speedway on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN))

River: The S. Fork of the Caddo river feeds into the main Caddo less than a half mile downstream. It is very clear from October through May (and cold). During June, it is refreshing, cool, and clear, but develops a slightly mossy tint. In July, Aug, and Sept, the water is at its warmest but is still pleasant.

The state highway system is only 2 miles away, leading quickly to Glenwood, Caddo Gap, and Mount Ida. Grocery stores and restaurants are found in Glenwood and Mount Ida. Hot Springs is the closest large town. Our caretaker will take you and the kayaks upstream to a local drop-off point, allowing you to float/paddle back to the cabin (1.5-2 hours). A longer float will take you downstream to the main Caddo River and on to Glenwood. Arrangements for pickup would be required. Caddo River Camping & Canoe Rental can help with shuttling boats ((URL HIDDEN)

The last 1/2 mile to the cabin is a rough dirt road. You will encounter ruts in the road that may cause problems for small or low-riding cars. The final portion of the road leads up a steep hill to the cabin. Rain and snow will make the hill slick, so be careful as you ascend the hill.

Remote Location! Although only 15 minutes from Glenwood, there are some things to be aware of when visiting a cabin in the woods.

The roads leading to the property are paved until you reach the final mile. The gravel/dirt road is in good shape until you reach the final 1/2 mile. Here, you will encounter ruts in the road that may cause problems for small or low-riding cars. The final portion of the road leads up a steep hill to the cabin. Rain and snow will make the hill slick, so be careful as you ascend the hill.

The well water has a sulfur smell. About 4 gallons of drinking water is provided and more can be bought in town if needed.

AT&T works only about 5% of the time at the cabin. Verizon is better at about 50%. Only the landline in the cabin is reliable.

We are an outdoor-loving, Christian family of four. Todd and Elaine work as Geoscientists when not enjoying our cabin. We love traveling to places where you will see more animals than people.
At our cabin you will have most of the comforts of home while also feeling isolated in the beautiful hills of Arkansas. We'll leave you completely alone unless you need something specific. Our cabin is your cabin during your stay and you won't have any human visitors unless you invite them yourself. Deer, birds, armadillos, squirrels, and an occasional rogue goat may show up unannounced, however! :-)
After living in various states around Arkansas for years, we always wanted a place on the river in the Ouachita mountains near the Ozarks. You can't beat swimming in a clear river, fishing along the banks, or kayaking down gentle cascades. In the winter, we love sitting on the porches, watching the birds, and staring out over the mountains.
