Our quaint, 1930's cabin was completely renovated in 2015 to take advantage of the amazing property. A large deck off the back overlooks a small orchard and miles of trails. Soak in the generously sized, 4-person hot tub or lounge on the outdoor couches enjoying the gas firepit. Pull yourself a draft beer from the tap in the kitchen, enjoy a picnic at one of the benches scattered throughout the property, or take a trip to one of the four wineries within 10 minutes drive.

Le logement

Our house is a ~1500 sq foot, 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom cabin located on a working farm just south of Charlottesville.

The master bedroom has a king-sized bed and a patio overlooking Roundtop Mountain. The guest bedroom has a twin-sized futon and a crib. A queen sleeper sofa is in the living room; sheets will be laid out if your party is more than 2. Kitchen is large and well-stocked.

There's a decent library of good books available, and we keep some board games around, too. In case it's crummy weather, we have DirecTV and wifi, and an old-fashioned wood stove to add some ambiance on cold winter nights.

Accès des voyageurs

You'll have access to our whole house and the surrounding outdoor space. Horseshoes and volleyball are usually set up. Table tennis and gym equipment are available for guest use in the detached garage. A picnic area with separate firepit and grill is a short hike away by the river. A half-mile gravel path surrounds the house, and various trails run through the woods behind the cabin.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

We will typically stay about 10 minutes away by car during your visit. We want to be conscious of your vacation time, and don't expect to be a regular presence. However, the large outdoor area does require significant upkeep. Sometimes it might be necessary for Lindsay or I to cut grass, weed the garden, or check up on honeybees during your visit. We will keep you apprised before stopping by.

Autres remarques

The property can be hard to find; contact us if you have any issues! I'll send out a house guide the week before your visit with precise directions. The cabin is the second (and last) house on the driveway...please be considerate of our neighbors.

We want to make your stay here as pleasant as possible. Let us know if any special accommodations are desired.

I would definitely recommend this place to other travelers. It was the perfect place for our small family, but could also be great for a group of friends. The house was clean, cozy, and had every amenity you could ask for, from the kegerator to the fire pit, hiking trails to the hot tub. The location is very convenient to downtown Charlottesville and UVa, very close to some great wineries and Monticello, and not far from the south end of the Skyline Drive. James was friendly and hospitable and the check in process was very simple. Thank you for a wonderful retreat James!

If you want privacy, space and access to the outdoors this is your place. It is safely pet friendly. Like at home, our dog was able to come in and out without supervision. The kitchen/living area is big enough to entertain 6 to 10 people, the hot tub was awesome!

This house is perfect for people that want privacy with the ability to just take nice walks. The location really can't be beat!! Located within minutes to famous wineries as well as those less known and an easy 20 or less minutes into downtown Charlottesville. We finally experienced Bodo's Bagels and ended up going everyday for breakfast...there bagels and breakfast sandwich choice is phenomenal. James was fantastic in communicating and meeting us for a few minutes upon arrival. I was concerned with the owner being on the property but the farmhouse and cottage are sufficiently separated for privacy and James let us know he was available if needed. Hike the trails but make sure you spray yourself with Off with feet first just in case but the trails are fantastic followed by a good grilling then hot tub. A great experience to relax and get away from the rat race...James and Lindsey have set up the perfect escape location.

James and Lindsay have a fantastic place, just far enough outside of Charlottesville to ensure you are away from the hubbub of city life, but close enough to dip into the great selection of restaurants and bars. The cottage is nestled in the corner of a large, private plot. Close to many wineries and cider farms, it is the ideal place to explore the local area from. It is well equipped and very comfortable, all your needs are amply catered for. The draft beer in the kitchen is great to take in to the hot tub to watch the stars and relax with. I can promise you you will not be disappointed, so don't hesitate and book now.

Lindsay and I moved to Charlottesville in 2014 after spending a decade in the Navy. She's currently teaching honors algebra, and I work in the finance department for the University of Virginia. We love hiking, running, being outside, and meeting new and interesting people!
