GOOD NEWS! We're happy be able to open our home for guests again as Chris's arm is almost better. OUR HOME: We have 2 cats. Our cool & comfortable house on a hill with great views is a green & quiet place. It's about a ten minute walk down to the town centre and the seaside, and can take up to 20 minutes to the start of the Undercliffs Walk to Seaton. Deer might visit our home in spring/summer, eat the flowers and fall asleep in the garden. Your legs should get strong walking around hilly Lyme!
We live in the lovely seaside town of Lyme Regis, Dorset. The guest room is perfect for one. We can only accommodate one person at a time. The bed is a SMALL DOUBLE SIZE (4 feet wide and 6 feet 2 inches long). The house and surroundings are very quiet, leafy green and about a ten minute walk to the little town centre and about a 20 minute walk to the start of the Undercliffs Walk to Seaton. In the town centre of Lyme you'll find pubs, unique cafes, different kinds of restaurants and the lovely seaside. At our home in nice weather you can sit outside to relax or have a tea or breakfast at the outdoor table which seats four. Deer occasionally visit, munch on whatever wildflower is in bloom and might relax for a nap. Our two cats might be outside and one might try and convince you he is starving and needs feeding. That can be ignored as they're very well fed. The very vocal one is half tabby/Siamese, is friendly and the big black one is shy.
Lyme Regis is about 15 minutes by car from Axminster. We pop into Axminster when we're both hankering after a great Chinese meal! If you're interested, ask us where it is. In Lyme we are offering our lovely spare room to visitors. Hope to see you soon in Lyme on the Jurassic Coast.
You can go directly from London to Axminster on Southwest Trains in about 3 1/2 hours. There is also local bus no. 31 that departs once an hour from Axminster station. After you get off the bus it's about a 5 minute walk uphill to our house on Westhill Road. We'll give you directions after you make your reservation. Inconveniently, SatNav might not recognise our postcode even though it's in a residential neighbourhood. Our house is off an unpaved trackway where a new house is being built.
We have 2 cats, one who is friendly and the other a bit shy.
Our house is about a 10 minute walk from the Lyme town centre where you'll find typical amenities, cafes and quite a few restaurants. If you're a foodie, there's a lot to choose from. Here's a small selection: the Town Mill Bakery (don't miss it!), Indian at Lal Qilla or A Taste of India, The Alexandra for a typical British ambience for toasted tea cakes, afternoon teas and beautiful extensive gardens, Amid Giants and Idols for great coffee and much more, Penny Black behind the post office for cakes and snacks, Aroma for great coffee, great gluten free cakes and lunches, the Royal Lion for marvelous dinners and the Black Dog in Uplyme for a wide variety of homemade everything. And there's more I haven't even mentioned. As you can see, you'll be absolutely spoiled for choice. Your trousers might be a bit tighter upon leaving than when you arrived, but don't worry, Lyme is quite hilly you, so you should be able to walk off what you've enjoyed!
Your bedroom has a cosy, small double bed (4 feet wide x 6 feet 2 inches long) with a firm natural latex & coir mattress and lots of greenery from the windows as well as a padded folding chair that turns into a single bed. The living room has a sweeping view of Lyme Regis and in good weather you can see some of the Jurassic coast and Portland from the living room.
I lived in Japan for a long time and one the many things I took away was not wearing shoes in the house, so please leave yours in the porch. Every room is carpeted except the kitchen and the bathroom. You might want to bring a pair of slippers or use a pair we have available for guests.
Breakfast: You can make your own breakfast using our ingredients or your own, or sometimes we'll make breakfast for our guests. The kitchen is open for you to use. You can bring something you like or use what we have: organic porridge, granola, eggs and usually gluten free or local bread as well as many kinds of teas, instant and drip coffee. There are nice places to eat in town if you feel like a walk before breakfast.
Our kitchen, washing machine (ask us and we'll arrange a wash for you), computer, WIFI and a piano are all available for guests to use. If you're looking for peace and quiet, seaside walks and lots of green, why not come for a visit to lovely Lyme Regis?
There are lovely walks in and around Lyme. The Undercliffs to Seaton feels more inland though it's by the sea. Sometimes closed due to an active landslip, but you can still explore the Undercliff National Nature Reserve: (URL HIDDEN) (about a 20 minute walk from our house to the start of the sometimes muddy path.) You can walk to Charmouth along the coast (about 1 hour). If you take the walk to Charmouth be sure you know what time the tide comes in or you might get wet on the walk back, or not be able to walk back! Stop in the newsagents in Lyme for a Tide Table or check on line. You'll be glad you did.

Judy is also available to chat during or after breakfast or during the day and to help with any questions about Lyme or the surrounding areas, nice places for lunch or dinner, etc. If you might like to chat, let her know.
The guest room bed is a SMALL DOUBLE SIZE (4 feet wide and 6 feet 2 inches long). The small double bed mattress is made from organic latex rubber and coir and like everything else in the house, is chemical free. Did I mention we have 2 cats? Just keep your door closed if you don't want them to visit.
There is no smoking in the house, but you can smoke in the garden. Please don't wear shoes in the house. Most of the house is carpeted except for the kitchen, so you might want to bring a pair of slippers. If we are unable to make breakfast for you, then please feel free to use our kitchen to make your own, using our ingredients or your own. Or walk into town where The Town Mill Bakery make good breakfasts and lunches. It's all homemade. If your new to Lyme it's worth visiting. To find it ask us or anyone in town.
