Le logement

The Puna Rainforest Estate is 20-acres surrounded by rainforest and includes the main house, swimming pool and 4 cottages. The estate has sweeping meadow and blue ocean views, wireless internet, avocado, banana, citrus orchard and abundant flowers... this place is a slice of heaven! The property is behind an automatic locked gate leading to a long private driveway. The estate is a fantastic place to host events because while the main house has the capacity to host group meals guests can also have privacy at their own places and make some of their own meals.

The Retreat:

The main house has an open floor plan with very high ceilings and 4 bedrooms. The kitchen, living room, lanais and screened room are oversized to accommodate up to 30 people for events. There are two master bedrooms upstairs each with access to the upper lanai offering a view of the pool, meadow and ocean. There is a princess bathroom with separate shower and claw foot tub with skylight. The spiral staircase leads downstairs to the main floor with two more bedrooms, one with a twin and the other with either two twins or a king.

The Four Cottages: (2 studios and 2 two bedroom cottages)

Blue Ginger----------
Green Bamboo----
Blue Ginger and Green Bamboo each have a full kitchen with all the amenities, a full bathroom and a cozy queen size bed and a Futon. Both studios have lanais overlooking the meadow and ocean.

2 Room Cottages
Lavender Orchid--
Yellow Hibiscus---
Lavender Orchid has a kitchenette with all the amenities, a full bathroom, a king size bed in the master bedroom and two twins in the second bedroom.
Yellow Hibiscus is the same but has a queen in master bedroom. Both cottages have lanais overlooking the meadow and ocean.

The estate is perfect for weddings, reunions, retreats and workshops where privacy and togetherness have the perfect balance. The retreat is peaceful, quiet and has no light pollution at night for unbelievable skies. Our nighttime temperatures are perfect for restful sleep. Close to all the attractions in Puna.

There is a gate to access our property and you will receive the gate code when you make your reservation. We value your privacy and don’t require interaction for check in or checkout unless you want to say hello or have questions. Caretakers live next door and we are available if needed. The property is very private and quiet.

Guests can use the pool, BBQ and 1.2 mile rainforest trail around the 20 acre property. Guests are also invited to eat fruit from the orchard including lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, banana, soursop, guava, passion fruit and avocado. You will have the entire property so no other guests will be there. The estate has excellent wireless internet, yoga room and several lanais. Large lawn areas are great for outdoor events.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

Estate guests have have the support of staff that live next door and have been managing the property for years. We are available throughout your stay if issues arise. We can walk the primary host through the property at check-in to familiarize them if desired. We seek to offer guests privacy for their gatherings and so no interaction is anticipated during your stay.

Le quartier

We live in a very safe neighborhood and have a property gate. There is little reason to leave a 10-mile radius but Hilo is only 24 miles away, Volcanoes National Park 40 miles and the Mauna Kea Observatory, where you can view through telescopes, is 50 miles. Kona is 100 miles over the new saddle road making the connection to the other side in about 2 hours. Puna Rainforest Estate is special because you can stay in a private place in a natural setting away from the busy neighborhoods and resorts but are still close enough to enjoy the attractions.

We are centrally located with many attractions within a short distance. Neighboring properties include La’akea Permaculture Farm and rainforest. Natural steam vents are close by and funky Pahoa town is 4 miles away offering fantastic organic food and supplies leaving little reason to leave Puna. The Ahalanui Beach Park and Pohiki Bay are 8 miles away and offer paddleboarding, surfing, body boarding, swimming and hot springs. Kalapana and the new Kaimu Black Sand Beach are about 7 miles away near Uncle Robert’s kava bar and Sunday farmers market. A recent addition to Kalapana is the UFO landing pad and star visitor sanctuary created by the Reinstated Kingdom of Hawaii. The best snorkeling on the island is about 10 miles away at Wai’opea tidepools near Green Lake and the heated ocean pools at Champagne Ponds. Also near Kapoho is the Ancient Mango Grove leading to intertidal swimming pools.

Autres remarques

The 20 acre retreat is within the Puna Forest Reserve and our grounds are surrounded by rainforest that is part of the retreat. Hawaiian Natives own the non-private property within the reserve to protect the Native Ohia forest that is sacred to them. The reserve was acquired by the Trust for Public Lands and transferred to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. The reserve is endangered species habitat for the Endangered Hawaiian Owl, Hawk, and Bat. While these species are otherwise very rare they are often seen at the retreat.

The Ohia Forest has giant ferns, diverse species of orchids, epiphytic plants, strawberry guava, passion fruit, geckos, praying mantis and songbirds. The rainforest is very dense and so we ask guests to remain on the grounds for their safety unless we discuss the specific hazards. The retreat property surrounding the grounds feature many skylights into lava tubes as well as lava trees and caves. The Puna Rainforest is invigorating to see, taste, hear and feel.

The Puna Rainforest Estate was amazing! Clean, well-maintained, luxurious--I can't say enough. My family stayed here for 5 days and we had everything we needed. I wish we had gotten to stay longer!

This place is where you go to unwind. No cell reception is a good thing especially when you're trying to "get away" from it all. On a clear night you can see a beautiful star lit sky along with the soothing sounds of the rainforest. This was the perfect place for our family retreat.

Thanks for your great review. There is a cell booster for the whole main house that works for ATT but not for other carriers very well it seems. Also cell and service works at two areas on the property quite well but otherwise reception is spotty or non-functional. We will update the material at the house so people know where they can use phones. There is also a landline guests are welcome to use. A new tower is under construction now and the entire property should have excellent service soon. We are appreciative of your visit and hope you come back someday.

We had an amazing wedding at The Puna Rainforest Estate, the cottages were perfect for our guests giving everyone plenty of space. The main house is beautiful and had everything we could possibly have needed for our stay. Swimming in the pool under the stars was magical as was exploring the private nature hike. The location is perfect and every day we did something completely breathtaking: Volcano National Park, cycling to the lava flow, swimming with turtles, the Kapoho tide pools and the stargazing at the Mauna Kea visitors' center. The house and grounds made a perfect wedding venue and we love that we have an excuse for coming back for anniversaries!

Where do I even begin? This place is FANTASTIC. Despite the fact that the place is in the middle of the jungle, it has all the comforts of home. We were a group of 16 young professionals from the Seattle area in town for the Ragnar relay race, and there was enough room in the main house + cottages to accommodate all of us comfortably. We won our race, so we have to give Jacklynn some credit for the good night's sleep leading up to it! As far as ammenities: The kitchen is modern, the beds are wonderful, and the property as a whole is just fantastic. The cottages are so cute and homey. And to top it all off, the property includes the nicest kitty (Oscar) I've ever met. We were best buddies by the end of the trip, and I was sad to leave him! If I do have one bit of suggestive feedback: It might be time to invest in upgrading the Internet in the main house. Currently, it's slow and unreliable, so if you're planning to do some work and need a VPN connection, you're going to struggle. Also, it helps if the network is secured, even if it's protected with a weak/simple password, because many work VPN networks won't work over unsecured WiFi. In closing, there were 2 teams from the Seattle area that made the trip over for the race. One stayed on the Kona side, and we stayed at Jacklynn's place. The group that stayed on the Kona side was bored after a few days. Our group, on the other hand, had so much to do on the Hilo side that there were still plenty of things we wanted to do that we didn't get to. The best part about this place is that most of the good stuff is less than an hour away! I'd definitely stay here again, because I could easily fill an entire week with stuff that we didn't get to on this trip.

We decided to spend our family-moon (family and our honeymoon), on Jacklynn's beautiful estate. It was a great location to enjoy ourselves as a family and enough room to accommodate us all! Jacklynn was very quick to respond to all questions and guide us through any questions & concerns, (including whether or not hurricane Madeline & Lester would interfere with our was so beautiful to experience a little rain and see what this beautiful land offers during & after the rain. We were still able to have an amazing experience, see the rainbow & boiling pots waterfalls, enjoy a luau at Royal Kona resort, check out the beaches, hike up to a volcano, and even visit a warm welcoming church at Sacred Heart! The family is so pleased with our trip , they're already asking when we can come back!
