If you are looking for a grand and majestic Victorian, then this home, known as the "Russell House', will speak to you. It is over 4800 square feet of beautiful craftsmanship from a time gone by. As you enter through the vestibule, you will note the hand-carved staircase and fresco ceilings in the foyer. A formal parlor to your right and a grand sitting room to your left. The impressive wood paneled library offers an intimate seating area with its gas fireplace, built-in bookcases& leaded glass windows. The formal dining room with stained glass windows offers an elegance of times gone by. With both a front and rear staircase, this five bedroom, two and a half bath home gives you a glimpse of the past with its servants quarters off the main sleeping areas. You will enjoy modern conveniences such as internet and cable television but you can also just forget about every day living and pretend you are living in 1882.
You will have access to the entire home. Please treat this home with the care it deserves. It is wonderful to be able to experience it as a traveler. You and your family can share in the memory of this historic home. These homes are being turned into condos and apartments. The previous owner bought this home to save it from a developer who was going to turn it into an apartment building. I want people to see the craftsmanship of those days. This home was meant for entertaining and for people to enjoy.
I will be available to guests as much or as little as you see fit. I will definitely show you around first and answer any questions you may have about the home. If you do not want the history of the home. I understand. Some people just want to settle in and enjoy the home. Other people love hearing the stories about the home and it's history.
The home is located in Massillon's historic 4th Street district. All homes on the street have received a plaque saying they have been placed on the National Historic Register by the US Department of the Interior. Here is a link to a story about the house done a few years ago.
You as a guest will have access to the home. This home is unique and has valuable antiques. I understand accidents happen and if they do please just let me know. I also need to explain the heat for the home. I had guests from a warmer climate stay at the home in October. They thought it was cold for them. When I went back in after their stay they had the thermostat at 90 degrees. I want to keep this place affordable. But, high utility bills will force me to raise the prices. I put a locked cover on the thermostat and it is set at 70 degrees for a guests stay. I think that is the temperature most homes are set. If there is an elderly person etc. then of course I am going to adjust it. Again, I want everyone to enjoy this beautiful home. Watching things like this helps. Hope this made sense.
Rental fee for this home for events is $350.00 for five hours. It is $75.00 per hour after 5 hours. Events include bridal showers, baby showers, birthdays etc. An extra fee will be added for any overnight stays. This fee does not include any food or drink of any kind. Maximum of 20 guests.

Here are some other reviews :
1. I'm conflicted about this review only because I want this to be my personal home away from home and fear the onslaught of reservations!! I'm from the Akron area but reside in Michigan and wanted to find a place to see family after the holidays to stay and possibly get them all together for a celebration. I was stunned by the listing BUT the rest of the experience blew me away. The owner, Jim, is such a great host and knowledgeable about the property. He is also very proud and that is the element that makes this makes it all the more special as he wants you to have the best experience. Don't just judge by the beautiful pics. They don't match the beauty and elegance of this historical gem. The space available to accommodate several guests/visitors is beyond compare. I can't wait to stay in the summer when the foliage is out but the interior decor during the holidays is a winter and Christmas lovers dream come true. My family is forever enchanted by our holiday visit. We also celebrated a couple Capricorn birthdays here and did not disappoint.
2. Upon entering this majestic home you are completely taken back into a time of elegance and beauty of years gone by. Each room is impeccably decorated with attention to every detail to keep its 19th century feel as well as a beautiful Christmas tree and decorations in every room. We spent a couple of hours just walking around taking everything in and mesmerized by its beauty. Sitting in the study/library in front of a warm fire with our furbaby we felt we should have quaffed a snifter of brandy even though we don't drink brandy lol but a bottle of wine and conversation was so much more relaxing in the home. I have reserved the home for 9 days in July to accommodate us, family and a rehearsal party for my son's wedding. Jim has even hooked me up with his caterer and I am so excited. This is going to be our future long weekend vaca spot seeing it is only 3 1/2 hours away from us, we've even talked about spending a Christmas there. If you are considering a stay at this home let me assure you, you will not be disappointed, the only disappointment will be upon your departure because you don't want to leave. Jim has provided every amenity you could think of. The home is exceptionally maintained, well equipped only 25 minutes to Akron or Canton, easy to get to and in a beautiful historical neighborhood just minutes from restaurants and stores. I was in Akron and unable to meet Jim upon arrival so my husband went ahead and was greeted and given a tour and history of the home. Jim is the epitome of a wonderful host and communication is outstanding. I could go on and on about this spectacular home and Jim's hospitality but will leave you with this if you are on the fence about renting this home or staying in a hotel room, I will say this renting this home is like riding in a Bentley while sipping a glass of Dom Perignon or renting a hotel room is like riding in a Chevy Spark while drinking a bottle of Boones Farm. This home is so inviting and welcoming with its warm charm and delightful ambiance.
3. This beautifully restored Victorian is a unique and special place. Our stay began with a tour through this lovely home with the owner, Jim. He shared the history of the house, detailed the restoration and patiently answered all of our questions (there were many!). He then left us the keys and the "how-to" instructions and we were left to enjoy this incredible home for the next few days. The house is impeccably clean and every possible amenity has been thought of and provided. My family enjoyed our stay immensely... We only wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you so very much to Jim for sharing this amazing house with us and others.
