Description

This newly renovated 1918 carriage house is a short walk to the beach and restaurants. The small home is in a quiet family neighborhood. It is a sunny and peaceful retreat from all the fun you will find stepping outside its door.

- Breathe in the ocean air.
- Sit in the garden with a cup of coffee and a pastry from the Buttery.
- Relax, soaking in the claw foot tub.
- Lounge on the bright sunny sofa with a good book.
- Or go out and enjoy all that is Santa Cruz.

The entire carriage house consists of a 535 sq ft apartment that sits on top of two carriage bays. If you were coming down from San Francisco in 1920, you would keep the horse and carriage in the bays, then go out to hear music, sit by the roaring beach bonfires, then return to your cottage to rest.

This cottage is just four blocks from Seabright Beach, nestled between the Boardwalk and the Harbor. It is in the perfect location!

The carriage bays have a couple of bikes you can use to explore the beach and music scene. It has beach chairs, a boogie board and a skim board for your use on the beach. It is also where you will find the laundry facilities. You can park your car on the street in front of the house.

There is a cafe table for two in the garden for outdoor dining. There is also a small gas barbecue for outdoor cooking.

There is high speed internet and it works great! Instructions on how to get on the internet are in the house manual that becomes available after you book your visit.

Seabright beach has fire pits to create your own bonfire and stays open until 10:00 PM.

Either Grace the home owner or Sara the neighbor will be there to greet you when you arrive. We are also available to answer questions by phone during your stay.

Check in is between 4:00 and 8:00 PM. Check out is at 11:00 AM.
You will need to arrange in advance for any exceptions.

We are required to collect the Transient Occupancy Tax in Santa Cruz City. After April 15, 2016 this will be added to your reservation and remitted to Santa Cruz City automatically. The amount is 11% which is what you'd pay if you rented a hotel room. Our government at work ;-)

The Seabright neighborhood is perfectly located between the boardwalk and the marina. Both are just under a mile from the cottage. It is warmer and sunnier than the rest of town and therefore called the "banana-belt" of Santa Cruz.

Seabright beach is your "classic beach". The wide sands stretch beneath the bluffs. The facilities are decent with flush toilets and an outdoor shower. Lifeguards keep you safe during the summer season. There are fire rings for evening bonfires.

There are a handful of restaurants in the heart of Seabright, and you are only 1.5 miles from all the shops and eateries on Pacific Street, downtown. You are in the middle of everything, yet living on a quiet neighborhood street, perfect for peaceful evenings at home.

ABOUT THE HOUSE

My husband Albert and I live at the cottage part time. We also live with my daughter when work requires us to be in the valley, which at the moment is too often. Thus, the house is not a pure vacation rental; we have personal belongings there. Half the dresser is empty for guests' clothes, more than half the closet is empty. You will see our toothbrushes in the medicine cabinet, etc. We live minimally so there is no clutter, but we do not move out between guests.

There is a security camera watching for uninvited intruders. This camera is recording video only (not audio) and points out the kitchen window, from the entry way down to the street.

There is a second house on the property with long term renters. They have a small dog and two cats. The yard is divided in two so you each have your own space.

There is no dishwasher, no microwave and no hair dryer.

NATURAL BRIDGES STATE BEACH Not only does Natural Bridges State Beach house the photogenic and famous rock bridge, it also serves as the seasonal home to thousands of migrating monarch butterflies each year. And if that isn’t enough, there are also some fantastic tide pools begging to be explored. As you head down to the beach, you will see tide pools on the right side that are home to all sorts of creatures. Crabs, sea anemones, starfish, mussels, and algaes are all regular residents to the pools. If you go: spend some extra time at the state beach and visit the seasonal monarch butterflies.

SANTA MARIA’S Santa Maria’s is another great spot for tide pool creature spotting. The usual suspects/creatures are sure to line the cavernous tide pools but it’s also known to have some more unusual guest appearances… as in, octopi. A tiny, yet amazing little octopus showed up at my last Santa Mo’s adventure and all the tide pool spectators were in awe of its ability to flawlessly camouflage over the different surroundings. Another favorite guest appearance at Santa Maria’s, although not in the tide pools, are the dolphins that seem to love a good sunset surf session. If you go: Enjoy the tide pool wildlife, but keep your eyes peeled for more creatures in waves.

WILDER RANCH STATE PARK Wilder Ranch is a must-see state park for any Santa Cruz visitor. The tide pools are the icing on the cake for this historic ranch preserving a working dairy farm, an 1840 adobe, and a Victorian farmhouse on 7,000 beautiful coastal acres. The landscape is varied with grasslands, oaks, knobcone pines, coastal redwoods, and douglas-firs and sea creatures aren’t the only wildlife calling Wilder home. As you walk through the park, deer, bobcats, coyotes and the occasional feral barn cat can be spotted. Once you reach the rugged coast you can find the perfect spot to explore the tide pools and take in the vast views looking north and south along the shoreline. If you go: Take time to enjoy the historic dairy farm, adobe and farmhouse, horses, and in the spring, enjoy a colorful display of wildflowers.

HOUSE RULES

There is a maximum of two people allowed as guests. Please do not invite additional guests to spend the night.

Parties are prohibited as most of the people who live on the street are working people with children. It is a quiet neighborhood and we like to keep it that way.

Mountain View Ave is a narrow street with limited parking. Please park your car in front of the carriage bays. Each family on the street agrees to park only in front of their own homes and asks guests to park around the corner on Logan.

There is a second house on the property with long term renters. They have a small dog and two cats. The yard is divided in two so you each have your own space. Please be respectful of their space and privacy. Keep the gate closed so the dog does not go into the street.

This house is equipped with a security camera that watches the main entry. Please do not tamper with it.

Finally, no smoking or pets.

We once again stayed at Grace's place to visit our son in Santa Cruz. The home is immaculate and within walking distance of restaurants and the beach. We rode our bicycles all over Santa Cruz from the cottage. This is a lovely, quiet family neighborhood. Thank you Grace for a wonderful stay.

grace's place is very quiet, clean, comfortable, and pretty. the kitchen is small but well stocked with some nice quality pots and pans for cooking, something which is important to me and often hard to find in an airbnb. the place is also located in a great neighborhood, seabright, near the beach and the best health food store in santa cruz, staff of life. the street isn't really used as a through street which makes it very peaceful. i had a great time staying here and grace allowed me to stay longer than her usual limit which i appreciated. she was also quick to respond to any emails/questions. one thing to note, there is a camera facing the outside of the front door to watch comings and goings which i found unnerving. i would definitely stay here again, though, if i was back in santa cruz.

Nice and centrally located cozy cottage with all you need for romantic gateway or business trip stay. Walking distance to almost anywhere in Santa Cruz, gourmet dining and lot of attractions in 10-15 min walking, personal parking space few blocks from beach, small grocery store just around the corner and nor far, but completely away from weekend tourist crowd. Quite street and cozy small front yard with ready-to-bbq grill. Rented Grace place for few times already and will go back for sure. Communication with Grace quick and easy, kitchen equipped, washing and drying machine at your convenience downstairs.
