I am sorry the neighbour has carried out works; they have been made at specific times in the day as per the Portuguese law. I have no responsibility for the works and no power to intervene with the neighbours' wishes to proceed with works in their homes. Nevertheless, I have spoken to the neighbour and was able to have him agree to start the works later in the morning so the guests could sleep comfortably for longer. However, I was faced with the neighbour's discontent who in turn complained that José Pernes and his family, my guests, made noise outside on the balcony until quite late in the night.
This lead me to conclude that there was a problem between my guest, José, and the neighbour, Daniel, to which I am oblivious, despite numerous attempts to harmonise the situation. I feel that even though the conflict was between José and Daniel, I have been forced to deal with both parties retaliations. José has even requested me a refund with threats of negative feedback as a written form of blackmail, which is a kind of behaviour I regret.
The house is well located and it was never claimed to be right next to the sea or that it would be easy to park near the beach during the high summer season. Sesimbra is a small village that many national and international tourists visit every day, which make it difficult, although not impossible, to park next to the beach - the beach parking is quite expensive, but there are free parking spaces slightly farther away. The jacuzzi has been broken for some time and thus the rent of my house has never included its use; emails have been exchanged with the guests regarding this matter and they have never showed any concerns until today.
I regret the guests have focused solely on the unpleasant noise, as they have certainly had many hours of leisure and comfort during their stay in Portugal.
I will be happy to welcome José and his family and friends once again next year.
