À propos de ce logement

Our house is a renovated 350 year old stone house in a beautiful village in the southern French Alps, more precisely in the hamlet Les Hières, above the town La Grave, famous world wide for its stunning mountains and freeride skiing. The view from our terrace or in the house is breath taking and the house is very personal with a lot of character to it. Our personal belongings will stay in the house.

Le logement

Our little village sits at 1800 m on the south side of the spectacular Meije Mountain range. The house is newly renovated but with old parts restored. The staircases are steep and there is only one bathroom so you need to be at ease with stairs and probably a close family! We have a lovely terrace and garden, with the whole view right at us! There is even a vegetable garden with sallads, herbs and vegetables at your disposal!

Accès des voyageurs

We will keep our personal belongings but of course leave space in wardrobes etc.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

We only rent out weekly or fortnight or month. Price can be discussed.

Autres remarques

Les Hieres is a beautiful alpine farmers village at 1800 meters. 50 inhabitants live here all year round and several more secondary guests. The closest town is 3 km away - La Grave - which is a famous powder ski / freeride resort. There is also a small ski resort Le Chazelet, suitable for intermediate and beginner skiers around the corner. For summer there are fantastic hikes around the corner, alpine lakes, climbing, mountain biking, road cycling or just relax in a sun chair and enjoy the majestic view. The closest bigger town is Briancon - 40 minutes away.

Communication with the owner went very smooth. We loved how we didn`t need to be at the location at a certain time to pick up the keys. I mean: holidays are supposed to be all about relaxing and that relaxing should start from the moment you leave your own house. The location of the property is insanely awesome. The views from the big livingroom - and bedroom windows of the Meije are breathtaking. All the amenities are there, the house looks and feels clean. Picking out a couple of points of interest (that are/were important for us (don't judge :p) : WiFi: We are both freelance workers that still have some occasional work to do while on holiday. The owner went out of her way to make sure we would be getting a solid, fast WiFi connection. I can tell you we got a solid 11Mbps download (up was around 2Mbps) and only had to reboot the Orange modem once (connection went down for a couple of hours) Parking: Being a city boy I brought a stupid big "fancy" car along with my cityboy - priorities. I was a bit worried about not having adequate parking. The parking suggested by the church (around 20 spots) is often all taken (in august when we were there) because a lot of hikes start in Hieres. It took me 2 days to realise that parking alongside the road (on top near the garbage containers) works just fine. There is not a lot of traffic and parking your car there is absolutely fine. Beds: the big (adult) beds are not really beds ... they are mattresses on the floor. I could imagine someone with back-issues, or some elderly person having some issues with that. But then again. If you're there to "climb" mountains, you should be fine. Also, the stairs to the top bedroom/floor is a bit tricky to get down from. Just hold on and be careful when you go down with your sleepy head. Curtains: There are no curtains on the bathroom window. I'm sure it's just a mindset too , as no one can really look in. Unless maybe in the dark when the lights are on. Also - it might be that the windows have tainted glass (did not check the outside view). The top floor/bedroom has curtains you can "strap on" with velcro. Altho when you tend to wake up early , leave them off, obviously. As said: the views on the Meije are AWESOME. Supermarket: Small supermarket in La Grave (has all the bare necessities). Big supermarket in Bourg d'Oisans (you can use the RS1091 while D1091 is closed down near lac the Chambon) Conclusion: Pictures are 100% legitimate. Owner is very correct an communicative. The location is awe-inspiring. Loved the fact that the owner invited us to use veggies from the garden. We would totally book this place again, and again, and again.

The house was certainly beyond our already high expectations. The interior design is uniquely beautiful. It looks and feels like a house in the nature, but is made of very recent materials, which insures that everything in the house works flawlessly. The house was very clean and the owners left everything accessible. When staying in the house we enjoyed the view from the windows was not less than stunning. There are many possible short and long walk routes around the house. We also enjoyed La Grave, a village which is 3 km down the hill. Highly recommended.

This house is one of this unique houses you can only hope to be true after finding it. Stunning views indeed, three floors of tastefully built and decorated with a pleasant mix of old and new. A house ready to explore the great environment and comfortable to spend time inside and around.
