The host canceled this reservation the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.

Like everyone said, it was very easy to find the apartment with his directions. Location (Kichijoji) is great. One night three of us were locked out, and the landlady let us in. Very nice and pleasant. However, I would not opt to stay here again. 6 people definitely could not stay here--we had 4 and it was tight. I think it would be a much more comfortable stay with only 2. Bathroom needs a deep clean. There was scum on the wall, toilet had trouble flushing, the seat was broken... And there was no shower curtain as someone else mentioned. So water would get everywhere. Now we could deal with that stuff. But we found 2 cockroaches on our second night...And we also found that someone had come into the apartment while we were out late at night. (Found an umbrella that wasn't ours/wasn't previously there in the apartment). We had contacted the hosts about the cockroaches, the toilet malfunctions, and most importantly someone either breaking into the apartment or the owner popping in without notice/telling us later. After hours, we finally got in contact. However I was told that that Masao would talk to the owner of the house and find out everything for us... And then we never got contacted again. No apologies, no sense of concern for us who had to sleep in an apartment with roaches and possible breakins... Nothing. Honestly that's just not okay to drop communication like that. We didn't pay that much money to have to deal with all these problems/add stress to our vacation. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. You'd have better luck with other apartments in terms of communication with the owners/hosts... Our cheapo hostels in other cities were better than this in terms of customer service and cleanliness.

The apartment was as described, although as a previous reviewer said, the place looks much more welcoming in the photos. The neighbourhood is great and the apartment is a no-frills place.

This typical small Japanese apartment was easy to find, thanks to Masato's pictorial directions. The key location was equally easy to locate. The apartment seems to have fairly new wall coverings, which give it an updated look. The kitchen and bathroom, however are quite old and look it. Though clean, mildew and mold have left their marks on these two rooms, along with peeling and stains and some ingrained dirt in hard-to-get-to corners. The bath lacked a shower curtain and rusted rods showed one hadn't been on for quite some time. This might make no difference to some but it was an inconvenience to us as the shower soaked the small bathroom when used. The twin beds are each different. One is a couch/futon which, when folded down to make the bed, leaves a hard ridge down the middle with one side soft and the other elevated. We had to put an extra futon under the mattress to make it barely tolerable. The other bed is a kind of platform which was very, very hard. An extra futon under that mattress helped as well. Pillows were decent. The lighting and heating unit worked well as did the hot water in the bathroom. Nicer curtains in the bed area on the sliding glass doors would certainly perk up the place. The current droopy ones were reminiscent of a cheap hotel room. The wifi hotspot worked fairly well and was a welcome addition. My friend and I are well-travelled older women, used to all kinds of accommodations. We both felt this apartment was more suitable for younger people. Though, that said, it was basic and worked for us as we left in the morning and didn't return until the evening so didn't really spend any time in the place except to sleep. We like the extra space in the middle of the place. The photo looks more warm and welcoming than the apt is in person. The building is in a quiet location, within easy distance of the train station and all the "downtown" areas of Kichijoji.
