Description

Spacious one bedroom flat in the heart of a bustling high street in Leith. The Bus stop is on the door step with a 15/20 min trip into the city center, the flat is next to The Shore which has great places to eat and drink just minutes away.

This is my family home where I grew up with my Mum, who has had to temporarily move up North and in the mean time we are happy to now share this cosy family space that is nestled away in such a busy part of the city.
The hall, bedroom and living area are airy and spacious with high ceilings and have all the character of an old Edinburgh tenement flat.
The toilet & bathroom are separate (which is often handy!) and again full of tenement character. The flat has bus stops directly outside it with buses taking you everywhere in the city - the center is 20 mins on the bus and can walk it in around 45 minutes too if you wish!
There is a Tesco directly opposite the flat and a 5 minute walk away is The Shore with all it's great bars & restaurants.

Myself or my partner will meet you for check in and I will be within easy reach by phone or email and I am a short drive away too if need be!
I know Edinburgh and the Leith area very well (my partner is also a black cab driver - his knowledge is infinite!) and we are both very happy to share our city wisdom and help you to enjoy your stay in Edinburgh.

Leith is a great area full of character and charm and very close to the city center.
You are spoilt for choice when it comes to eating and drinking both on Leith Walk and down The Shore. Ocean Terminal shopping center is a 15 minute walk if you don't fancy going into the cc. There is a gym directly next to the flat and day passes can be purchased if you fancy a work out, there are also several parks near by as well, all within a few minutes walking distance.
I am very knowledgeable of the Leith area and I would be happy to share my favorite hot spots!

Coming from Waverly or the Airport - the numb will take you from the city center to the front door step of the flat - the fare is £1.50 per person (right change must be given on bus)
A taxi journey from Waverly station is around 5 - 10 minutes and is around £10.
A taxi form the Airport can take anywhere from 20 - 30 minutes and is around £25ish.
Once at the flat the buses from the door step or along at Leith Walk will take you nearly everywhere in the city, day passes can be purchased for £4.
As with everywhere in Edinburgh parking is difficult and restricted but on street parking is available in surrounding streets near to the flat.

We don't want you to have any surprises so here are a few things we think you should know:
The flat is situated on a busy colourful high street and although some nights can be quiet there is still your average inner city noise pollution so if you are a light sleeper then this flat would not be a good option for you. :-(
The stairwell as with old tenement flats is not the most glamorous so don't be put off by this when you arrive - it's what's inside that counts!
The flat is also on the 2nd floor so you might need to have your porridge in the morning if you have heavy luggage!
Lastly - the kitchen - it's on the small side so if you are a keen chef and planning on spending a lot of time cooking this might not be the flat for you. It's a fully functional kitchen with all the basics and I have managed to cook for 10 before, it's just a bit on the cosy side!

Gail was excellent at coordinating my arrival and staying in contact. The flat was clean and comfortable, and the overall stay was lovely.

Very beautiful and nice flat. Leith area is good for you if you don't want to be middle of city center and tourists. Quality/price 5/5.

You can tell when a hosts cares about providing a good experience and not just making money. Gail was extremely friendly and welcoming, and the flat was stocked with all the basics one might need (including milk, cereal, bread, etc). She showed us around and explained how everything worked, and there was even a bottle of wine waiting for us on the table. We locked ourselves out once and she was kind enough to drive across town and let us in. The flat is large and cozy, and is just a few minutes away from the city centre on the bus. We'll definitely try to stay here again when we're back in Edinburgh!

We stayed in Gail’s flat for 5 days and everything was perfect right from the start. Getting in touch with Gail was easy at all times and even though we arrived at about 11 pm, Gail was present to welcome us and showed us around. While doing so, she made sure to explain to us how the shower or the heating work and was patient to answer any questions. The flat is exactly as cosy as described and it makes you feel at home right away. There were candles and blankets everywhere (there’s an electric fire as well) and Gail even got some flowers to decorate the rooms with. In addition, she’d left many useful things like salt, pepper, toast, milk, cereals, peanut butter etc. and loads of toiletries, in case we’d forgotten anything at home. She also provided some towels, soap and tissues, which was very thoughtful and another proof for Gail being an excellent host. We also truly appreciated her personal guide to Leith and to the most important sights in Edinburgh. These lovely features added to an overall very positive impression of Gail’s flat. We enjoyed our time very much and were sad when it was over. Thanks for trusting us with your home and thanks for your hospitality Gail :-)!

We stayed in Gail's apartment for 4 nights and had a very comfortable stay. The flat is really homely, quaint and exactly as described at a very reasonable rate. Gail was an excellent hostess - great communication right from the start. On arrival, she showed us round the flat, how everything worked and she'd left us lots of little treats, which was a lovely touch. She knew it was our birthday's and left us a card, cake and wine, which was super thoughtful. The area is great. Super easy to get into the centre of Edinburgh, lots of buses a stone's throw from the flat and it only takes about 15 mins. Or you could walk it in about 30 mins (there's the slightly longer option to walk along the river Leith path, which is very picturesque). There are plenty of great places to eat, within about a 5 min walk of the flat, especially by the river. Mimi's and The Compass were particlar favourites. Mimi's was fantastic for breakfast and lunch. Both places had lots of gluten free options, which can be tricky to find sometimes. It's not a modern flat, which we wanted and there were lots of blankets around and an electric fire if needed, for cosy nights in after a long day of sightseeing! Gail left out lots of toiletries, in case you find out you've forgotten to pack something (we forgot toothpaste!), which was super handy but there is also a Tesco Express across the street if needed. Shower was a great pressure and temperature and towels were provided by Gail, too. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and were glad we got to stay in Leith, too. Thanks Gail :-)
