Our guests rave about the Massage Chair too.
Just down the road we live on is the picturesque Elk Meadow Park, aptly named because if you're there early in the morning or at dusk, you'll be treated to hundreds of elk leisurely grazing, for a beautiful hike through the park, or up the mountain to Bergen Peak, one of our moderately challenging climbs. Bring enough of water with you, and you'll be rewarded when you get to the top.
Charming “downtown" historic Evergreen is a quick 10 minute drive from the house. First settled in 1859, downtown retains much of its old, wild west charm. Dining options abound as well as wonderful & unique shopping, music, art galleries, and nightlife. The famed Little Bear Saloon in downtown is always a great spot to catch good music, as is the Muddy Buck for great coffee and live music on Thursday nights.
The world-famous Red Rocks Amphitheater is a beautiful 20 minute ride away down "the canyon road", or Rte. 74, and besides being a great place for a concert, it's stupendously gorgeous, and one of the greatest places for hiking. If you're really up for a heart-thumping workout, you can join the Red Rocks Bootcamp group, bright and early Saturday morning at 7:00.
The famous Evergreen Lake is a two minute walk out of town and offers a day's worth of activities, regardless of the season. In winter there's ice skating, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing. The lake was voted one of the “top ten most beautiful skating rinks in the world" by CNN. And if you're here over New Year's, you definitely won't want to miss the celebration on the lake with roasting marshmallows by firelight, ice thrones, and a falling ice star accompanied by a fantastic fireworks display at midnight.
And we'll always have a pot of hot spiced cider and cookies at the ready in the colder months.
And don't forget the world-class skiing an hour or less away from our door - Breckenridge, Loveland, Arapahoe Basin, Keystone!!! And an hour further from Breck you come to the amazing slopes of Vail and Beaver Creek!! What more can you ask for - back and forth in a day!!
In the summer, you can enjoy fishing, sailing, stand-up paddle boarding, canoeing, and more. If that sounds right up your alley you can rent boats, kayaks or paddle boards at the lake (or paddle boards right down the street next door to Big R).
There's also a summer music festival, with free music on the lake on Wednesday nights.
And depending upon when you're here we've got the Evergreen Bluegrass Festival, Evergreen Jazz Festival, almost weekly Music at Myers Ranch Concerts, almost famous Evergreen Rodeo over Fathers' Day weekend, wonderful local theatre...and NOW - TWO wonderful craft brewers, right here in Evergreen - Lariat Lodge Brewing Co. and El Rancho!!
The Evergreen Golf Course is next to the lake, offering an inexpensive but challenging 18-hole course. 14,265-foot Mount Evans is a short drive away – and visible from the house! - offering the opportunity to hike a 14-er (or drive up North America's highest paved road!), rock climb, ice climb, or just enjoy the alpine beauty of Colorado. There's no shortage of outdoor activities around Evergreen. Cycling – both road and mountain – is incredible and right out the door.
Skiing and summer exploring is close at hand as well; we're 8 minutes from I-70, which provides quick access to Breckenridge, Vail, Aspen, Summit County, and Winter Park ski resorts. Or Denver, just 25 minutes down the hill!
There is never a shortage of things to do here in Evergreen - it just depends on your mood, energy level, season and weather. Just about every weekend has some sort of theatre offering from the Evergreen Players, Stage Door Theatre, Evergreen Chorale, or a surprise at Center Stage.
You may luck out and be here during the Evergreen Jazz Festival, one of our many Wine Festivals, SummerFest, Music at Myers Ranch (held weekly throughout the summer), Barbecues at "the Ranch", the Annual Evergreen Rodeo & Parade always held on Father's Day weekend, zip lining in nearby Conifer (the longest zipline in CO!), a brewery tour at Coors 20 minutes away in Golden - and hundreds of breathtakingly gorgeous hiking and and biking trails.
If you love beautiful hiking don't miss Staunton State Park, one of the country's newest State Parks, opened May, 2013, just west of Conifer (actually in Pine). Think mini - Yosemite.
Or just relax on your own mountain deck and watch the blue jays, swifts & magpies!

When traveling I love seeking out beautiful, unusual and sometimes hidden places. As a chef I love finding places with amazing food - incredible, beautiful produce, or small, hole-in-the-wall restaurants with food that will blow your mind.
I haven't been many places, but I felt an immediate affinity for Rome - like I knew I was meant to be there. I also loved Southern Chile - it was not only beautiful (kind of like Evergreen with the high mountains), but felt warm and friendly and very much like a community.
I'm a sucker for Broadway musicals - we even had a Broadway musical wedding! And often it's not the music, but the theme of the show that gets me...Pippin, Barnum, Anyone Can Whistle...
When you stay here we want you to be as comfortable as possible. This is your vacation home - relax by the fireplace with a good book, sit on the deck with a glass of wine admiring the mountains, cuddle up with your pup for an afternoon nap, or enjoy one of the many hiking or biking trails just outside your door.
