The Humming Bird Cottage has an abundance of charm, is very private, and romantic. We remodeled about seven years ago, and paid special attention to creating an ambiance that would be a pleasure in which to live. The cottage, with its kitchen, living room, dining area, bedroom, bathroom, pantry, laundry, patio, green landscape, trees and roses, has all the amenities a guest could want, and is reminiscent of the countryside .
Sitting just below a pretty barn, this cottage has a pastoral feeling with verdant trees enfolding it. Some of our guests have called it a 'fairytale' cottage, but we call it Humming Bird Cottage because the Humming Birds will be coming to the kitchen window by April to sip syrup while you are making meals in the tidy kitchen with a pantry, and a laundry with washer and dryer.
In the living room there is a Chickering piano, fine art on the walls, high speed internet and HD TV. The summer blue bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed and room darkening curtains so you can sleep late. There are quiet ceiling fans, but newly installed this year and completely silent, a Mitsubishi air conditioner/heater located to cool or heat the entire 600 square foot cottage. Outside, a pretty patio with a gas grill is set among a landscape of locust trees, evergreens and roses. Also new this year is a beautiful brick walkway leading down the hill to the cottage, with a paddock fence alongside.
The cottage is very private and within minutes to everything. You can swim, boat, or fish in the best ocean and bay beaches on the Cape, or the nearby ponds which are only five or six minutes away. Kayak at sunset on the Pamet River with our kayak included in your rental.
Wellfleet and Provincetown are a ten minute drive for memorable dining, shopping, deep sea fishing, and whale watching. For live theater and music, the Julie Harris Stage at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors' Theater, the Payomet Theater, the Provincetown Theater, and art galleries and museums are also minutes away by car or the nearby Flex bus. Golfing at the Highland Links overlooking the Atlantic is like golfing in paradise. Nearby, are the historic Cape Cod Lighthouse, Truro Historic Museum and The School for the Arts at Castle Hill.

In the nearby barn, there are clearly marked bins for guests to put their trash and recyled materials, and they can also put their bikes here, and store any gear they need to. Paddles and life jackets are also here for the kayak. Guests are free to use my two-seater kayak kept at Pamet Harbor, which flows into Cape Cod Bay and the Pamet River Estuary. Bird watching--great blue herons, etc. and sunsets are a great reason to go to Pamet Harbor.
On the ocean side, Ballston Beach is unspoiled and gorgeous and can reached by back roads. Longnook Beach is a "hanging valley," geologically speaking, and a most splendid beach on the ocean side. Bay beaches such as Corn Hill, Fisher and Ryder Beaches can be reached by rural back roads that are only minutes away by car.
Go to the end of North Pamet Road to find walking trails going up and over the dunes and looking over the Atlantic.
Whale watching is an exciting experience that can be had from boats leaving Provincetown on a regular schedule.
The bike trails in the National Seashore are exceptional in the Provincelands.

I live in the main house on the property which cannot be seen from the cottage. I am available if needed by telephone or by ringing my doorbell. My phone number is on the binder in the living room of the cottage. The binder has all the information you will need, and more, about the workings of the cottage, about the beaches, and special places to go in the surrounding area. I pick up trash and recycling from the bins in the barn once or twice a week.
There is a sweet little Chickering console piano in the living room of the cottage, which I try to keep in tune for my guests with a musical inclination.
Speaking of music, the Payomet Theater, right here in North Truro, has world renowned musical guests, as does the WHAT Theater in Wellfleet. If plays are your thing, the Provincetown Theater, the Julie Harris Stage at the WHAT Theater, or the Harbor Stage presents equity actors and original plays. Tennessee Williams, Eugene O'Neal, and many others, lived and wrote plays in Provincetown.
We have a fine art school here in Truro--The Center for Arts at Castle Hill--where you can sign up for classes during your stay (Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill). Or, the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, besides being a wonderful art museum also has many classes. So come and express yourself.
There is a no smoking and no pets rule. I would appreciate it if my guests would place their trash and recycling inside the lower level of the barn where there are barrels, and park their car in the driveway in front of the barn.
My father, now deceased, was a baritone at the Metropolitan Opera. Music has always been at the center of my life, and I am happy to express my joy in this by singing in the Outer Cape Chorale. For the last 15 years I have been working in the visual arts as a painter and printmaker. Near my home, I have a studio in my lovely barn. I garden and grow vegetables. As a bird watcher, creating a beautiful landscape in which birds love to dwell is important to me. My daily routine is to pick up my mail at the post office, drive out to the Pamet Harbor, which I consider "my back yard," to observe where the tide is, read my mail, and watch the gulls flying overhead, dropping clams on the parking lot to break open and feast on the inside. Two distinguished art schools -- The School for the Arts at Castle Hill in Truro, and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum -- are nearby. I avail myself of classes in both places, where I also exhibit my work. My two children, I can hardly believe, have grown into middle age, one a cellist and the other a cabinet maker.
