Good clean apartment next to Princess Street. Apartment is located on the ghost walk routes so noisy at night, this was called out in the description so expected bit of noise. Building is a old but good flat once you get indoors.

The location is fantastic for a first time trip to the city. Check-in is easy. We stayed after the festival and noise was not a problem at all. Listing can be viewed as oveer-hyped, but one needs to factor in the location to the overall equation.

This listing is IN NO WAY accurate to what you are viewing. As a previous Airbnb Superhost, I am genuine in my reviews and moderate with expectations. This apartment is close to not even following Airbnb rules. I have photos of everything I am about to comment and if you read other reviews you will find threads of what I am saying to validate this. First thing you get keys from his 'office' which makes you realize this is almost a Hostel type situation, a company running this with a cleaning service, not an owner. Upon walking in the entrance there was bird poop everywhere, cigarette butts and a dirty mattress in the hallway right next to the apartment. The building and area felt VERY unsafe. There was a bar and restaurant outside, that was SO LOUD, my mother, aunts and I barely slept. You hear everything in this apartment, to the point you think someone is unlocking your door as they try to open theirs, bit scary. The bathrooms were not clean and kind of sketchy, where you have to press a button 30minutes before to take a shower and when you turn a light on or flush the toilet this very loud buzzing sound happens. It was annoying. The beds are rocks, and cleanliness was questionable for the linens. The carpets were so dirty they had tracks in them. We didn't use the kitchen as we did not need it. The positive, was the location. The hill is steep as other reviewers noted, but OK. Being so close to the mile was fantastic; but you really pay for what you get (less in my opinion). I wish I had used the money for a hotel on the mile. I would have paid more for somewhere better as this was so awful. Not being able to sleep, feeling unsafe and unclean really ruined the end of our trip and made me pretty sad. It's just the exact opposite of my other amazing Airbnb experiences.

Hi Christine, I am very sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay. I can assured you we follow Airbnb rules. Also the area is very safe, I haven't ever eared of any trouble, and I have been working in the same street (my workplace and flat are in the same street) for 7 years. The flat it's just 50 metres or so from the Royal Mile, and during August there are hundreds of visitors in this area. They are just tourist like you that come to Edinburgh Festival. Based on my experience I can tell you they know how to behave and the area is certainly very safe. The birds like the narrows streets of the Old Town and there is a cleaning company that clean the entrance of the building once per week. About the mattress, maybe it was there for a day or 2, certainly is not here any more. You picked up the keys in my work place, I don't see any problem with that. Even having this office next to the flat it's perfect, as guest can leave their luggage here if needed till 9pm. I am not personally cleaning the flat, I have a guy who does that and he makes sure to clean thoroughly all the areas. I am going to speak with him and check what could have happened with the points you raised. About the shower, it just take 10 seconds or less to run hot water since the moment you press the button, so I don't know about the 30 minutes you are talking. Also the flat, like all the flats in this area use pumps to run water, the pump it's just working when you open a tap or flush the toilet, so the noise pump just last during those situations. I send the linens to a professional laundry and they always do a good job, I am going to check what could have happened in this situation. About the noise, the flat is new from 2004, and it has good double glazed windows. There are two restaurants in the same street, Wings which closes at 11pm and Maichel Naive which closes at 10pm. After those hours it should't be much noise in the street.
