Private entrance, bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. All utilities and wireless IT included. Apartment comes furnished with linens, sheets, cookware, new bed, air conditioning and heat.

Steps to Rock Creek Park, 5 minute walk to Mt Pleasant Street, 15 minutes to downtown by by bus. Mt Pleasant Street is a quaint retail district, close to bus lines and several restaurants, bars and clubs. Downtown DC is 20 minutes by walking and bus; 15 minute by bike.

The following is a completely uncensored and objective review of Maura's (Steve was not there and had minimal interactions with me) place : BOTTOM LINE: The actual physical space and included amenities are a saving grace given the abhorrence of the landlady, Maura. Her unbelievably disrespectful and childish actions in response to a dispute between us marred the entire stay. As an example, during the course of a discussion, she literally imitated the sex sounds of my partner (I have proof if you'd like to know more). Not to mention she willfully intruded on our privacy by opening the basement door–KNOWING that I was resting in bed with my partner–out of SPITE. This is the kind of person you will be dealing with. CALM BEGINNINGS The following is a play-by-play of the dispute that ultimately showed Maura's true character: I arrived in mid-September per our agreement. At that time, she gave me a rundown of the place, at which point I mentioned that my girlfriend will visit me during my stay. Fast forward about two weeks to September 29, when my girlfriend completely surprised me by flying from California and arriving at my doorstep on a Friday night. Like any couple in love, we made love. She then stayed with me for 14 days. SUBVERSIVE INTENTIONS Unbeknownst to me, Maura heard us that night, and in other instances following that. Instead of communicating to me that our sounds were disruptive, Maura waited until October 8 to tell me that "I have to charge an additional 50$/night for longer than a short visit. . . Thnx for understanding." Her basis? Because I did not inform her of my girlfriend's stay per the house rules. I admit that I did not tell Maura my girlfriend was arriving that night and was staying until X date. But even sidestepping the clear text of the house rules that state that extra people incur "No charge," my response is, SO WHAT? Either way, my girlfriend was staying two weeks– whether Maura knew that IN ADVANCE or discovered it, as she did the FIRST NIGHT. So instead of informing me of her hidden accrual charges the day she found out I had a guest, she decided to spring them onto me more than a week later. Keep in mind that I did not hide my girlfriend–my girlfriend met Maura the very next day after she arrived. Maura, interestingly–but not surprisingly–declined to inquire into my girlfriend's stay or provide notice of accruing charges during their encounter. A REAL CLIMAX Maura and I had a discussion on October 11 concerning her plans to charge me. To summarize, while the discussion supposedly concerned Maura's excess water and electricity usage, it was nothing more than a tirade by Maura on how annoyed she was that my parter and I have a lot of sex. She effectively used the water/electricity usage as a mere pretext to charge me more for the sex sounds. And regardless of what was said, it was...

Over the last six years Steve and I have had the pleasure of renting our apartment to wonderful short and long-term guests, both couples and individuals from around the world. We strongly believe in Airbnb's model of a peer-to-peer accommodation sharing platform that's built on mutual trust and respect. Unfortunately, our six year lucky streak ran out when we hosted Hector. Hector, who is new to Airbnb, chose not to adhere to our house rule: no additional guests without owner approval. We have this policy because, like all places in this historic area, it's an old structure and we are close to our neighbors and sound travels. Additionally, we don’t want guests staying when the space was quoted for one person which is pretty standard when renting. Hector admitted to me that he knew the policy but, "didn't think it was a big deal." By choosing to ignore the house policy, Hector was going against one of the main pillars of Airbnb-mutual respect. What made matters worse was the incredible noise level from Hector and his girlfriend; this was something we never experienced in all of our six years of renting. I have a small child in the house and didn't think it was appropriate to explain to him why there was a woman screaming in our basement apartment. I also had to field an inquiry from a neighbor who asked, “what is going on in your basement?" It’s unfortunate that Hector continues to think he hasn’t done anything wrong (barely admitting that he knew of the policy but ignored it- which is buried in line 22 of his rant/review). Our many positive reviews over the years speak volumes and is a far more accurate account of us as hosts. We look forward to getting back to our lucky streak of great guest experiences!

Steve is a tremendous host! I stayed in the basement apartment for 4 months and had absolutely no problems. He would even shovel me a walkway when the bad snowstorm hit. The apartment had everything I needed!

Steve was very welcoming and responsive. I had trouble with the stove, A/C, internet and entry gate, and he addressed/fixed all of that immediately. He kindly provided a hot water boiler that I specially requested. He gave me several delicious tomatoes and squash from his garden. Overall, I enjoyed my time at Steve's apartment. It was clean, the bed was comfortable (even a memory foam pillow!), the bathroom nicer than my own at home. Definitely recommend booking his place.

Fantastic place, a great basement apt with its own entrance. Steve was very helpful and friendly and the location is awesome, I ran most days on the trails in rock creek park and it was an easy 10 minute walk to the metro. Thanks mate!

Steve is the best host one can wish for. As soon as we met, he made me feel at home. He gave me excellent tips to get around town and was very respectful regarding my privacy, while still being available all the time. The apartment is very nice as well and located in a quiet and safe neighborhood. Highly recommended.

The place was as shown in the pictures and the description, clean and in a good location close to public transportation. Steve and gis wife are great hosts, they had wine, juice and coffee for me and he wad always reacheable and helped answering questions.

This was my first time visiting DC, as well as my first Airbnb experience, and everything was better than expected. Steve was great. We were running late and he graciously met us much later than anticipated. The place was great and exactly as described. Steve even included a 6 pack of a local brew in the fridge. We were able to safely walk to restaurants, bars, the metro stop, etc. Thanks for the great stay Steve!
