My husband and I stayed at Moorings Inn for one night when we visited Mount Desert Island in late May. The manager and the check-in staff were friendly. We were told that our room was upgraded. But when we were taken to the room, the air in the room was stale, indicating we were probably the first guests of the season. We spoke with the manager. She was open to help us find another room. She showed us a couple of options, including the original one we booked on AirB&B, which turned out to be very small (when we booked on AirB&B, we did not find much description on the room online except for a picture so we could not really tell what the room was like). Finally, the manager showed us a newer room. It was smaller but very cozy, so we decided to take it. The room was bright and clean. We appreciate the manager's effort to help us find a room we would like to stay in. We had a good night stay there, except for the periodic noise from the small refrigerator in the room. The Inn provided simple breakfast in the morning (croissant, coffee cake, oatmeal, milk, juice). It was not fancy, but enough to get us going for the day. The staff was friendly.
The prices of AirB&Bs in Southwest Harbor were higher than those in Bar Harbor during this long weekend. Combined with the fact that the room we stayed in was small and less well equipped, we felt our stay in Bar Harbor was of better value. Not sure if this is a general trend.
