You will be hosted by me and my girlfriend. Sometimes our flat mate (female art teacher) will be present too. We are easygoing and respectful people and we expect the same from our guests :-) We don't provide breakfast, but you can use the kitchen to make coffee and prepare food that you can buy in nearby shops. We have friends coming for dinner from time to time, in that case you'll be invited to join us if you want.
Kleinbasel Altstadt (Small Basel Old Town) is a central historic neighbourhood of Basel, just across the river from Grossbasel (Big Basel). The riverbank, just one block from the apartment, is great for walks, jogging, biking or hanging out on stone terraces overlooking the river - a popular meeting place of local people. A water-powered ferry takes you across the river to the cathedral.
In summer you can experience a special kind of swimming with a typical Basel inflatable bag that keeps your clothes dry while you float downstream. The water is Alps-clear and surprisingly warm, and this kind of swimming is really exciting and addictive! :-)
All basic services are nearby in 10 min walk radius - supermarkets, pharmacies, post office, hairdressers, designer shops... There are a plenty of good restaurants, cafes and bars in the area. Kleinbasel hosts many cultural events and open-air concerts in summer.
The apartment is strategically located between many points of interest such as:
10 min walk - Tinguely Museum
10 min walk - Kunst Museum
10 min walk - Marktplatz (Old Town central square)
8 min walk - Exhibition centre (Messe) and Basel Conference Center
15 min walk - Basel University
10 min walk - German train station (Badischer Bahnhoff)
15 min walk - Swiss train station (SBB Bahnhoff)
The nearest tram stop Wettsteinplatz has direct tram lines to both main train stations in Basel (Badischer Bahnhoff and SBB Bahnhoff). Another near tram stop is Claraplatz.
The apartment is located in 3rd floor of a building without elevator. There is good heating system and you have control over the temperature in your room. The tap water is clean and drinkable, and there is a stable supply of hot water.
