We fell in love with the fabulous location and the character of this cottage. Floorboards and fireplaces, a narrow winding staircase up to two little bedrooms and a cosy sitting room kept beautifully snug and warm by a woodburning stove. The cottage is on a tiny very quiet road with a marvellous view of St Catherine's hill. There is a small front garden and a sheltered back garden, a sitting room with a woodburning stove, a further study/sitting room with an open fire, and two bedrooms (one twin, one double) The kitchen is beautifully sunny and has huge glass doors which concertina back so you feel as though you are right in the garden. There is an induction hob and fan oven, and a dishwasher and plenty of worktop space as well as a table and seating for 6. The cottage is a combination of old and new. It is definitely not smart, but the kitchen and bathroom have been recently modernised and are stylish and practical. The rest of the cottage is old fashioned and scrumbly rather than chic. It is our part time home, and so is personal rather than corporate. Floorboards and oriental rugs upstairs, slate flooring and rugs throughout the ground floor. There are two bedrooms, the main one with a beautiful view across to St Catherine's hill and the smaller one looking onto the garden, both are very quiet with have comfortable beds. There is partial underfloor heating downstairs and a woodburner and an open fire. Wood is provided and the woodburner is really the main source of heat for the whole cottage. The sitting room has a very comfortable corner sofa bed, so the cottage will actually accommodate 6 people. The garden is sheltered and sunny and a table and chairs are provided for outdoors eating.

Guests have access to whole of the house and garden.

We are never there when we have guests, so you will have the entire place to yourselves. We leave a key in a key safe for you. As everyone has different needs and tastes we don't provide a welcome pack of bread milk eggs etc, but we do make sure there is loo paper, shampoo, soap, dishwasher tabs etc.

The cottage is in a perfect location within easy walking distance of the city centre and yet it feels as though it is in the country. The road has hardly any cars and there are no houses opposite us so we have gorgeous open views. Also we have the ancient hospital os St Cross just at the end of our lane and access onto extensive water meadows through which you can walk for miles in either direction. St Cross has a friendly village feel. There are a couple of nice pubs close by and a very good food and wine shop.

We tend to walk everywhere, but there are regular buses into Winchester and up to the station which go along the main road which is a short walk from the cottage

The main heat source is a woodburner. It is easy to light and wood is provided and it, and the underfloor heating keep the cottage warm enough for us to be comfortable. There is no central heating though and the bedrooms can be chilly in winter. Possibly the cottage will not suit people who are not woodburner fans or who like their bedroom to be toasty warm. (the bathroom is at the foot of the stairs and very close to the woodburner, so is comfortably warm and dry as long as the woodburner is lit)

There is a double ended bath rather than a shower (there is actually as shower over the bath, but it is hard to regulate and splashes everywhere, so we would prefer you not to use it)

Règlement intérieur
L'entrée dans les lieux se fait à partir de 15:00

We want you to enjoy the cottage and hope you will be as enchanted by it as we are. It is our part time home and we would really like you to take care of our things and tell us if anything gets broken or damaged. We realise that accidents happen, and we would just like to know about it!

The cottage is in the middle of a row of cottages and we would like to you to be considerate to our neighbours by keeping noise to a minimum. It is probably not really suitable for young children unless they are particularly quiet, and unfortunately it is not suitable for dogs either. Strictly no smoking please.

Pleasant, quirky cottage in a fantastic location. Host got in contact really quickly, with clear communication. It's fairly rustic and you need to use the wood fire on a chilly day, but that adds to the charm and waking to the sound of bird song (and nothing else) was lovely.

Really friendly and helpful host. Perfect location, not too close and not too far from the downtown area

The cottage is lovely and in a beautiful area overlooking St Catherine's Hill and a couple of minutes walk from St Cross Hospital and the water meadows- just perfect! I had a couple of queries when I arrived and the host responded immediately and was very helpful. One point to note is that the cottage does not have a TV, but the wifi is very good.

Beautiful cottage close to Winchester centre and a stones throw from St. Catherine's Hill. The cottage is as described and Rosie was a excellent host with clear communication throughout. I would definitely recommend this place and stay again.

I am an Alexander Technique teacher, married to Simon who is a psychotherapist. We have 5 children between us and a growing brood of grandchildren. Simon and I live mostly in a slightly ramshackle shack above a remote Cornish beach and when not working spend our time very simply beach combing, reading, listening to music, swimming and sometimes trying to surf. Occasionally we are more sophisticated and go to the theatre! Simon's two boys live in Australia and we have a sailing boat there which we live on some of the time.. Between us we have 5 children living on 3 different continents, so we are pretty used to travelling, and fairly laid back about accommodation etc. We both love what we do professionally, but we are experimenting with working less and having more time to see our spread out family and friends.
