The place has seen better days. The elements had taken its toll. The location was a bit far and off the beaten path as described. It's on the beachfront but don't expect white sand or any sand at all. It was all rocks. We were prepared for it though with aqua shoes. What we were not prepared for something stinging in the water. That's something out of their contol I knew it would be a simple place, but I also expected the basics like running water, and a clean bathroom. That was not the case. There was no running water when the sun goes down which was not mentioned. And if there was water it was murky as you can see dirt/sediments at the bottom of the pails which I don't know if this was even potable. But they did provide a big container of drinking water. Overall I don't think I got my money's worth. This is Samal with a lot of options available. Notes: -Bring all the food you need. There's nothing in the area. - cars or anything lower than AUV is a no as going down is so steep. -Not also good for seniors, toddlers, or anyone with mobility issues. The stairs going to the rooms are soo steep it's almost like a ladder.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The host was very helpful and she made sure we were comfortable. She even had us picked up from Davao City and set up a tent for the kids. The caretakers were very helpful and polite. They brought us fresh seafood and cooked our meals. We loved that this resort is close to the marine sanctuary and they had snorkeling gears and life vest ready if you want to see the beautiful corals and fishes. They also have several hammocks where you can relax while enjoying the sea breeze. The rooms are open and the windows don't have screen but they are ready with mosquito nets. If you're looking to stay in a laid back island life, this is for you. We would love to come back here someday with friends.

The place is AWESOME! definitely for those wanting some peace and quiet - a beachside villa with spectacular sunset would do the trick. The rooms were as described - simple, clean, comfortable. There were hammocks beside the shore if you wanted to chill and drink coffee in the morning. For a February, it wasn't hot at all due to the sea breeze coming in. Occasionally had brownouts and water interruptions but that was for the whole davao and samal island, and not just the place. It wasn't a problem for us at all. The helpers were charming (free welcome iced coffee and fruits!) and extremely helpful. (thanks, manang Normy and Ellen!) After breakfast, we'd walk right to the shore, put on the free snorkeling gear, and swim out to the reef that was surprisingly alive. They have two "resident" pawikans that you'll see often. There's a palengke nearby where you can buy meat/fish, just make sure to some basic groceries first in davao city before heading out to samal. Overall, would recommend this place (and only this place!) to anyone wanting to catch a break from Manila traffic. 5 stars! Thanks Ma'am Regina!

Ate Gi's place was perfect for what we needed - away from the city, great view and relaxing atmosphere! Everything described in the info is accurate. The beach right in the front yard is perfect from sunrise to sunset - awesome snorkelling during the day and bonfireat night! We personally didn't meet ate Regina during our stay but she kept a close contact with the staff and made sure we were attended to and provided with the best service. She was very easy to talk to - I also booked tours and transportation - communication was easy and I was able to reach her for emergencies. I definitely recommend and have recommended Seal Shack to family and friends. Thank you po, ate GeneRose!

Miss Regina's home is a real gem hidden away from the tourist areas in Samal. We were all impressed by the big homey bahay kubo, which looked way better than the pictures. We arrived late at around 8 or 9 in the evening, but we were still greeted with a warm welcome and complementary fruits by the caretakers. The hammock and daybed on the first floor instantly called to us. On the second floor, the balcony was just as cozy with banig, pillows on the floor, and board games. The rooms were complete with towels, mosquito nets, extension cord, and electric mosquito killers. The kitchen is complete with a fridge, plates, utensils, LPG, etc. You may request for a barbeque grill to be brought right by the house like we did. The caretakers cleaned the house everyday and the night time guard was always around. There is a nearby sari-sari store or local convenience store where the beer and cigarettes are sold at regular prices. We were a big group but everyone had a great time. Even the small children had fun lazing around and playing with the waves. The place is right by a marine protected area so you don't have to go too far into the water to see fish and live corals. The real kicker were the free snorkels and vests. The entire place is one of those spots where time either seems to stop or go by real slowly. It is quiet yet charming. It is beautiful but natural. It felt just like a home away from home.
