***If the dates you're looking for aren't available please consider my other listing two floors above this apartment: "Great location, Vintage and Cozy". It's listing page can be accessed by clicking on my profile and scrolling down the left side of the page.*****
A large, open concept, recently renovated basement apartment consisting of a kitchen area, lounge area and a double sized bed with a memory foam mattress, a small dresser and an armoire.
The kitchen has a mini fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee makers (electric, French press and drip), electric kettle and hot pot. There is also a cafe table and chairs.
The lounge area has a humongous desk containing a large selection of local travel info, an easy chair, a coffee table and a couch that converts into a single bed. There is a tv with a digial convertor box (about 20 or so channels) and a dvd player with a small selection of dvds. There is also free wifi.
The bathroom has a large shower and vanity, and of course, a toilet.
The entire space is private, has a private entrance, and is not cluttered with other peoples possessions- the armoire and dresser drawers are empty.
Can't be beat for access to downtown Portland, the Oregon Convention Center, and the eastside Belmont and Hawthorne neighborhoods. Portland's 28th street restaurant row is right around the corner, and three blocks away there is a Whole Foods and a very cool second run movie theater.
I allow dogs on a case by case basis. Please contact me first before booking if you're traveling with a dog. There is a small cleaning fee.
The number 19, 20, and 12 bus lines are all close by and will take you downtown and to the airport. If you are driving there is always on street parking nearby. There is an Enterprise car rental lot on Sandy approximately three blocks away and six zipcars within a mile.
No smoking of any kind is allowed in the apartment or on the premises. The entry door to the apartment has an electronic combination lock. I'll give you the combination before you arrive. Please make sure the door is locked before you leave and after you enter the house.
This listing is in a fantastic location, and is quite comfortable for two people. It was nice and clean. It is in the basement of the house so you do hear a little bit of noise in terms of people walking around upstairs. The lighting is a bit dark, but this seems to be mainly because of the low ceiling in the basement, as it appears that Dan has tried to put in as many lights as possible. Overall, I would recommend Dan's apartment for a Portland visit.
Just what we needed. Convenient to public transport, or within easy driving distance of all Portland has to offer, and some great micro restaurants nearby.
We were welcomed by Dan's friends who were staying in the same house, and were very helpful, responsive, and even helped us carry our cases in. The house is in a wonderful, leafy neighborhood with many cafes, several brewpubs, restaurants, and even excellent food shopping all within about 4 blocks - definitely walking distance. Lots of ambience!
Just a few comments: the bed was too small for us (slender, but in our sixties), and wedged between support beams in such a way that the inside person would have a hard time getting out at night. However, my husband was able to convert the sofa into a single bed with linen from a drawer underneath the bed, and that worked out fine. Also, the TV was quite an old one, but there is cable in the house. We found it a little hard at first that the door to the apartment didn't have a lock, while the other part of the basement contained a washer & dryer for other tenants and guests. However, the outside door had a very well working lock with a code, and we received our personal code before arrival. After a day or so we were comfortable with that set-up. Parking is a bit haphazard on the street, but generally available in front or around the corner of the short block.
Generally an enjoyable stay, with fresh and nice linen and a roomy bathroom. Also, I loved the bed... (all by myself)!
The apt. was exactly as we expected. It was in a nice, quiet neighborhood very close to restaurants and stores. It was convenient to public transportation and offered us a place to store bikes. We found it quite nice. One drawback was the low ceiling. If you are over 6" you would have to duck in the apt.
We had a bad experience here. Dan was out of town and another couple was staying upstairs. One 3 different occasions we were awakened in the middle of the night, between 3-5AM. Finally the third night it happened I got up and banged on the ceiling of the apt, then went to the back door and banged, and then to the front door and banged. It sounded like they were moving furniture in the middle of the night. No one answered and finally the noise stopped.
Because of that I cannot recommend this place. Our next visit we will find a separate apt over the garage where we won't be awakened in the night. We reserved the apt. for 10 days and were angry that our vacation sleep was disturbed.
Dan's apartment was spacious and clean. He was away during our stay but had some friends house sit the main house. They were very nice and helpful. We didn't realize it until we got there but this is a basement apartment. The people house sitting had a sweet dog that would play in the house and we could hear his paws on the hardwood floor above. The only con to this place was the noise that came from the dog and people walking above us. The apt is in a nice area and very close to good restaurants. Overall, it was a positive experience!
Everything about this experience was very positive. Apartment was clean, private, comfortable, and -- best of all -- in a great location and near public transport. Dan provided much useful information about the neighborhood and was prompt and friendly with answers. We would absolutely rent from him again.
Dan's place was delightful! It was clean & neat, close to shopping, a variety of restaurants, and right in the middle of a great neighborhood. Dan made sure we had all the information we needed prior to our arrival & stayed in touch during our time there. There was plenty of Portland info in the room, with maps & guides. A great place. We would definitely stay there again!

À propos de l'hôte, Dan
I'm originally from Chicago and have lived in Portland for about eight years. I've always had a passion for travel and have been lucky enough to visit about 40 countries, most recently Vietnam, Cambodia and Taiwan. Closer to home, funky, big city neighborhoods are my favorite places to explore. The natural beauty and mild climate are what drew me to the Pacific NW, but I return often to Chicago where I maintain business interests.
