The historical wagons are small and cosy and without electricity, they are suitable in late spring summer and early autumn. they sleep two plus there are narrow side beds for small kids. They are tiny and authentic and although we have renovated them with an insulated roof the front and back are original. The wagons were made from the Ford boxes which brought the Ford car parts over to the Cork plant. They were used as holiday wagons from the 60's up until the early nineties. As traffic became faster the horse drawn wagons became increasingly dangerous on the narrow Kerry roads. We have kept the traditional colours and made them more spacious inside by removing the bunk beds. They were initially advertised to sleep a family of five. Originally the wagons would have slept many more as children would have nestled underneath with an awning around the chassis. The wagons have the original hay boxes and front seats for the driver.
It was tradition to travel in the wagons from farm to homestead and to sharpen tools and especially make buckets and coal scuttles from tin. Hence the name Tinkers, which was/is an honourable profession and craft.
