One of the most spectacular views on the coast of Maine, the cozy and charming Schoodic Surf Cottage is situated only 75 feet from ocean’s edge on the Schoodic Peninsula. There are expansive views of Sand Cove as well as wide open ocean.
The cottage is set among mature spruce and fur trees on over 180 feet of deep-water oceanfront with pink granite and crashing waves.
Relax. Get lulled to sleep by the sound of waves. Wake up to breathtaking sunrises and watch lobster boats check traps. Unwind. Enjoy the cozy sound of the fog horn. Escape. Treasure the beauty.
Wildlife abounds – see how many you can locate: eagle, fox, red squirrel, chipmunk, loon, seal, osprey, porcupine, sea ducks, deer, and chickadee.
Schoodic Surf Cottage is located a short 10 minute drive to the Schoodic portion of Acadia National Park. Schoodic is often referred to as the “quiet side of Acadia." The shoreline and landscape remain unspoiled and Schoodic Point provides spectacular views of Cadillac Mountain and Mount Desert Island as well as rolling and crashing awe-inspiring waves. It was a favorite photography location for Ansel Adams. Hike up Schoodic Mountain for breathtaking views – (it is not a difficult hike).
The picturesque village of Winter Harbor is approximately 4 miles away. Winter Harbor provides restaurants, grocery store, bank, antique shops, local artisan’s crafts, art galleries, old fashioned 5&10 store, and the mansions of Grindstone Neck. The Grindstone Neck Golf Course, built in 1891, is one of the 100 oldest courses in the US with incredible water views of Frenchman’s Bay, or the harbor, from every one of the course’s 9 holes.
Also located in Winter Harbor is Schoodic Arts for All, a non-profit that celebrates arts and culture in Downeast Maine – providing music, art, crafts, sculpture, dance, theater, and film in affordable performances and workshops.
The drive to Bar Harbor and the Mount Desert portion of Acadia National Park is 45-60 minutes. Ferry and water taxi services are available to Bar Harbor presenting lovely views of islands, mountains, lighthouses, mansions, and fishing villages. Acadia National Park provides a free Island Explorer Bus Service.
Kayak and bike rental is 5 minutes away in Birch Harbor. You can bike to Schoodic Point and kayak off sand beach or Jones Pond, both minutes from the cottage.
